How to Roast Garlic

Garlic, slowly roasted in the oven, loses its sharp bite and turns remarkably soft and mellow.

Roasted cloves are nutty, rich, slightly sweet and oh-so versatile.

1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Cut about ½ inch off the top of the head of garlic. Peel off any loose, papery skin.

    2. Place garlic in a small ovenproof baking dish, cut side up.

      3. Drizzle with 1 tablespoon olive oil.

        4. Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake in the oven until cut side is lightly browned and cloves are very soft, 45 minutes to 1 hour.

          5. Remove, and allow garlic to cool slightly before squeezing the garlic paste from the cloves.

          Try roasted garlic mashed into potatoes, blended into store-bought hummus, or in one of the recipes below. Roasted garlic is at its best, however, when treated simply--spread on crusty bread and drizzled with olive oil.

            This is very good. My mother use to roast garlic many years ago before she past away. Good on bread, crackers, hamburgers anything. YUM

            Oh Sure...they all say it's easy! I tried to follow the directions in the "Save This Article to Your Recipe Box" But I see no "My recipe box". Here's what I see...My Allrecipes or Recipe Box. I don't think you have all the right pieces here. Can you fix it?

            its just like the directions say. copy the weblink, go to your recipe box, under options you have a choice to save a weblink, click that and paste the weblink into the box provided and save. i just did it and it was easy.

            OMG yum!!! I LOVE roasted garlic, but never quite knew how to make it myself. All I have to say now is my poor husband... I might never get kissed again. Lol.

            This is a great and easy way to roast garlic. Many years ago we just took whole heads of garlic wrapped in foil with a splash of olive oil. It was ready when you meat was cooked. And to add this link to your "recipe box", is also easy with a few added steps. You will need to copy web-link url, than open your recipe box, next select the options drop down menu arrow. This is located right next to the words: My Recipe Box - My Recipe List Options. From the drop down menu select add a web link and paste the url here, follow the remaining prompt steps to add it to your recipe box. Hope this helps so who were having trouble. Cheers.

            I AGREE!!!! Just write it on a recipe/index card and FILE it. I also find that if you just wrap the garlic tightly into a square piece of foil to bake, it's easier to handle out of the oven. Enjoy. Thanks for the reminder on the temp and time!
