Healthy Snacks: Granola

Perfect to nibble on in the morning or as a portable snack when you’re out and about, granola really goes a long way.

Granola All the Ways!

Oats, nuts, fruit, and perhaps some honey or brown sugar to sweeten the deal--all the makings of a healthy snack that kids will love.

And with so many ways to serve it, granola can make several appearances yet never get boring: cereal-style with milk, mixed with yogurt and fresh fruit, or even in bar form.

Try one of the top-rated recipes below for traditional granola (then check out the granola bars a little further down):

Granola can be healthy but also not so much if it is made with lots of sugar, honey and dried fruits which are loaded with sugar and also oils. Gotta watch what goes into them.

Ditto, Stay away from too much if any corn syrup !! All natural dried fruits, watch the additional ingredients. Lastly, add flax seed, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds whenever possible.

At Christmas time I found a recipie for granola that pure maple syrup was the sweetner it will add great natural flavor and no added fat. I will be trying that and some blackberry syrup I got for Xmas. It has chunks of berry in it.

The super walmarts sell a sugar free honey. It has the same carbs, etc as real honey but I feel it is better for me to use rather than honey. I am diabetic. Diabetics ahould use very little honey, if any. I like using this for granola bars. Super Walmart is THE ONLY PLACE I have ever seen it though.
