Fruit Salad Fun

Bright, colorful foods are always kid-pleasers. Enter fruit salad!

Salad...How Sweet!

Fruit salad is a great way for kids to get vitamins and nutrients they need, but it's not a salad that needs to be force-fed; in-season fruits are always the sweetest treat! Let the kids choose which fruits they want, then top with a dollop of yogurt, nuts, and/or granola.

Try some of these top-rated fruit salad recipes:

More Fun with Fruit

Keep things interesting:

  • Fruit kabobs: slide assorted pieces of fruit onto wood skewers, then put out yogurt for dipping. Let the kids sprinkle granola and/or nuts on them too.
  • Carve out a small cantaloupe or melon to use as the bowl for the fruit salad--eating food out of food is always extra exciting.
  • Make an all-fruit version of a banana split: arrange the banana as usual, then use berry puree and/or pieces of assorted fruit, yogurt, and a little drizzle of honey where the ice cream, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce would normally go.

My husband and I make fruit salads for Church and he started adding a small cup of strawberry yogurt as a dressing. Super good, and made the fruits even more delicious.

Great idea to add yogurt as a dressing. When I have my breakfast, instead of eating plain yogurt, I always add whatever fresh fruit I have on hand to vanilla yogurt. You can always add a Tbsp. of jam to yogurt to dress it up.

I make fresh fruit salad with sour cream with bit of white sugar added (to taste). Can add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla to boost the flavor to the sliced banana, bing cherries, canned pineapple, cantelope...halves of seedless grapes. It's so delicious!!!

You can add a tablespoon of instant pudding also, vanilla flavor always works well of course you can use whatever you have. Stir it in the fruit, it will mix with the juices. No juices - then you can add some fruit juice.

Chris, what a great idea. Now that is one I never thought of. I try to keep some pudding on hand for in case the babies come and I always have fruit (from the U.S.A. in the fridge for them).
