How do I enable cookies?

The membership functions on our site require you to allow cookies on your computer.

Internet Explorer 8.0 and 7.0:

  1. In Internet Explorer, click the Alt key on your keyboard and select the Tools menu dropdown.
  2. Select Internet Options.
  3. Click the Privacy tab.
  4. Click the Sites button. This will launch the Per Site Privacy Actions window.
  5. Type Allrecipes.com in the Address of website text box and click on the Allow button.
  6. Click the OK button near the bottom of the window.
  7. Set and test your Allrecipes cookie by clicking here and following the directions listed.

Firefox 3.0:

  1. Click on the Tools menu and select Options.
  2. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. In the Cookies area, click the Exceptions button.
  4. Type Allrecipes.com in the Address of website text box and click on the Allow button.
  5. Click the OK button near the bottom of the window.
  6. Set and test your Allrecipes cookie by clicking here and following the directions listed

Safari 4.0 and 5.0:

  1. Click on the Safari menu in Safari.
  2. Click on Preferences in the window.
  3. In the new window, click the Security icon near the top of the window.
  4. Under Accept Cookies select Always or Only from sites you navigate to.
  5. Click OK to save changes.

Google Chrome:

  1. Click on the wrench icon at the top of the browser.
  2. Select Options in the drop down menu.
  3. Click the Under the Hood tab.
  4. Under Privacy, view Cookie Settings.
  5. Under Cookie Settings ensure Allow all cookies or Accept cookies only from sites I visit is selected.
  6. Click Close once you have set Google Chrome to allow cookies.

How do I print a recipe?

Printing directly from any recipe page is easy. Simply click on the Print this Recipe link located to the right of the recipe’s ingredients. You will then be taken to a Print Preview Page where you can select your print preferences.

  1. Page size:
    • Full Page
    • 3x5 Card
    • 4x6 Card
  2. Text size:
    • Small
    • Medium
    • Large
  3. More Options:
    • Nutrition Info
    • Footnotes
    • Personal Notes
    • Recipe Photo

    NOTE: If you want to print in this format all the time, click a checkmark into the empty box next to Save as default settings.

  4. If you’re a Supporting Member, you can also select Advanced Options for additional printing features. Learn more about the extra options of Supporting Members. Become a Supporting Member now! Customize your printed recipes with the following:
    • Add a Custom Recipe Headline
    • Choose Reviews
    • Choose a Photo
    • Choose a Graphic Theme
    • Select a Color
    • Select a Font
  5. Click on Print.

Help! My Recipe will not print!

Some browsers have difficulty with page formats and only read the advertising and framing on the page, not the recipe. An easy way to print the recipe is to use a printer-friendly format. You can use our printer-friendly option by clicking on the Print this Recipe link located to the right of the recipe’s ingredients.

Clearing cache

If you are experiencing page loading problems or are viewing old pages, try clearing your temporary internet files or cache.



Internet Explorer 8.0 and 7.0:
  1. In your browser, click on Tools.
  2. Select Internet Options. The temporary internet files should be on the first screen in the General area.
  3. Click on the button to Delete Temporary Internet Files (not the cookies). This will clear up files that may be clogging up your computer.

Reset your computer to pull up the most recent version of webpages: while still in the Internet Options area, under Temporary Internet Files, click on Settings. Select the option to Check for Newer Versions of the Page and set it to Every Visit to Page. Then click OK.

Firefox 3.0:

  1. In your browser, click on Tools.
  2. Select Clear Recent History and choose Everything. This will clear up files that might be clogging up your computer.


Safari 4.0 and 5.0:
  1. From the Safari Menu, select Empty Cache. This will clear the stored files in your browsing history.


Google Chrome:
  1. Click on the wrench icon on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Tools.
  3. Select Clear browsing data.
  4. In the dialog that appears, select the Clear browsing history checkbox.
  5. Select Everything to clear your entire browsing history.
  6. Click Clear browsing data.

Proxy Servers

If you are experiencing problems with our pages and your cookies are enabled, your internet service provider or internet browser might use proxy servers. If someone using your ISP views a page, a copy of that page is stored. Then every time anyone using your ISP asks for that stored page, the server sends the copy. If you are getting a Page Unavailable message you will need to disable you proxy servers.

To disable the proxy server (Off) in Internet Explorer 7.0 or 8.0:

  1. Open Internet Explorer. From the Menu bar, select Tools > Internet Options > Connections.
  2. Click the LAN Settings button in the bottom right corner.
  3. Uncheck the Automatically Detect, Automatic Configuration, and Proxy Server setting options.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Apply, if available.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click the Refresh button in your browser.

To disable the proxy server (Off) in Firefox 3.0:

  1. Click the Tools menu and select Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click the Network sub-tab.
  4. Click the Settings button.
    • If Manual proxy configuration is set, add Allrecipes.com to the No proxy for list.
    • If Auto-detect proxy configuration is set, try selecting Direct connection to internet.
  5. Click OK.

To disable the proxy server (Off) in Safari 4.0 and 5.0:

  1. Click on the Safari menu in Safari.
  2. Click on Preferences in the window.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Click the Change Settings button.
  5. In the Select a Proxy Server to Configure box, ensure all boxes are unchecked.
  6. Close the Network box by clicking the close icon.
  7. Close the Preferences box by clicking the close icon.

To disable the proxy server (Off) in Google Chrome:

  1. Click on the wrench icon at the top of the browser.
  2. Select Options in the dropdown menu.
  3. Click the Under the hood tab.
  4. Click Change proxy settings.
  5. Click Settings within that menu.
  6. Uncheck the box under Proxy Server which states Use a proxy server for this connection.
  7. Click OK.

Adding our email address to your address book

If you are subscribed to Allrecipes newsletters but you are not receiving them, your email filters might be blocking delivery. Allrecipes Newsletters are sent from email@allrecipes.com, please allow this address in your email filters to ensure you will receive your Newsletters and they will not be returned to Allrecipes. If newsletters are returned to Allrecipes your email address will be removed from the mailing list.

Enabling JavaScript in your browser

To enable JavaScript in Internet Explorer 7.0 or 8.0:

  1. Click the Tools icon in the toolbar.
  2. Select Internet Options. A dialog will pop up.
  3. Click the Security tab.
  4. Under Security level for this zone, click the Custom level... button.
  5. Scroll down the list presented to the Scripting entry.
  6. Under Active Scripting, select the Enable radio button.
  7. Click OK and confirm your change.
  8. Click OK in the Internet Options dialog.
  9. Refresh the page or visit a new page for settings to take effect.

To enable JavaScript in Firefox 3.0:

  1. Click the Tools menu option in the toolbar.
  2. Select Options. A dialog will pop up.
  3. Click the Content icon
  4. Check the Enable JavaScript checkbox.
  5. Click the OK button.
  6. Refresh the page or visit a new page for settings to take effect.

To enable JavaScript in Safari 4.0 and 5.0:

  1. Click on the Safari menu in Safari.
  2. Click on Preferences.
  3. Click on Security.
  4. Make sure these checkboxes are checked:Enable Plug-ins, Enable Java, and Enable JavaScript.
  5. Make sure the Block pop-up windows box is not selected.

JavaScript should be enabled by default in Google Chrome. To ensure it is:

  1. Right click on your Google Chrome shortcut.
  2. Click Properties.
  3. On the target line, ensure disable-javascript is not present. If it is, delete it.
  4. Click Apply.

I can’t add recipes to my recipe box

If you are having trouble adding recipes to your Recipe Box, please ensure you are viewing Allrecipes on a Supported Browser. If you are, and you are still not able to save recipes to your Recipe Box, please ensure you have Cookies and JavaScript enabled on your browser. My Recently Viewed Recipes list is not updating

If your recently viewed recipes list appears to be stuck, or is remaining empty, please try clearing your cache. If you are using Internet Explorer 7 or 8 please also ensure the checkbox next to Preserve Favorite Website data at the top of the Delete Browsing history box is unchecked before clicking delete.
