Beef broth is poured over browned and seasoned cubes of beef in a slow cooker with carrots, celery, barley and thyme in this recipe for a hearty soup which is cooked for 8 hours.

  1. In a skillet over medium heat, saute the beef in the oil for 5 minutes, or until browned. Stir in the salt, pepper and garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon dried thyme,1 bay leaf,1 pinch of fennel seed
  2. 1 can of tomato paste water, celery, carrots, green onions, parsley and barley. I cooked this on the stove over med-low heat for about 4 hrs.
