  1. In a large saucepan, bring potatoes, celery, onion, and vegetable broth to a boil until potatoes are just tender. Add tomato puree, ham, and corn.
  2. In a small mixing bowl, blend butter, flour, parsley, salt, garlic, and pepper; add cream and mix; stir into potato mixture. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly.
  3. Remove from heat: add cheese and stir until cheese is almost melted. Let soup stand for 5 minutes.
