The original recipe called for raisin bread, which I did not have, so I tried the recipe with croissants. What a surprise! I added this as a last-minute decision for a brunch as a sweet, and people were so surprised on how good it was!
In a bowl, mix the cream cheese, dulce de leche, and spices until thoroughly combined. Spread two croissant halves with the mixture, half on each slice. Divide the apple slices in half, and arrange the slices on top of the cream cheese topping. Top with remaining croissants to make two sandwiches.
Spray a large non-stick skillet with cooking spray, and place over medium heat. Pan-fry the sandwiches until filling is gooey, about 3 minutes per side. Can use a panini press which will flatten the croissants but it will still taste just as good.
