Not your typical chocolate cookie! This Italian recipe emphasis spice more than chocolate. Great for the holidays, or any special occasion.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
  2. Cream the shortening, margarine, sugar, eggs, vanilla and brandy.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, baking powder, salt and spices. Slowly add flour mixture to bowl. Add nuts and mix until incorporated.
  4. Roll into 1 inch balls. Place on cookie sheet, spaced an inch apart. Bake for about 10-12 minutes; cookies should be firm but not hard.
  5. Cool briefly, remove from cookie sheet and place on rack. When completely cool, dip in glaze, place back on rack. Do not store until glaze is completely dry.


I almost didn't try this recipe due to the name, but once I saw the ingredients I realized it was probably the recipe I had hoped to find. I was looking for an Italian chocolate spice cookie one...
