With a sunny and warm climate that doesn’t falter seasonally, there is always a reason to celebrate in the Virgin Islands—and where there is a celebration in the islands, there is food. Caribbean dishes show off local flavor, while close proximity to the U.S. makes American dishes common as well. Dining out you will find a variety of cuisines available including French, Italian and Asian, but traditional local fare shouldn’t be missed. The islands are especially famous for their fresh fish, kallaloo soup, sweet potato pie, and fried okra. And don’t forget the rum! The most popular is Cruzan Rum, manufactured on St. Croix. In order to give a boost to the economy, U.S. customs lets travelers take home an extra bottle on top of the 5-liter liquor allowance, so save room!
