Good morning AR friends!!!! Welcome to the weekend.  Woke up early this morning.  A chill in the air as South Dakota awakes to a cloudy morning with no view of the sunrise. I know is there in the distance in it's glory bursting with various shades of red and yellow.  Coffee on and thoughts go… MORE

About this Cook
Married American Female, mother of 5 all American boys,Grammy to 2 girls and 2 boys! Yep, that's me. I find I love to cook more and more. Relaxing, keeps my mind on things other then stressing over things that don't matter.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook is soups. Split pea, veggie beef, chicken noodle and so on. And YES, all from scratch, not a can. I find myself feeling Julia Childlike (so wish I had her talent for cooking) while dicing and chopping!
My favorite family cooking traditions
That's an easy one. In Grandma's recipe box, this is where I will find our cooking traditions from bread to homemade ice cream.
My cooking triumphs
I have never tried to make homemade bread, other then a bread maker or frozen bread dough. Nor have I even dared to dabble in using "yeast". That was my sisters department. I baked cookies and made soup! Well this year, after 50 years of believing that making cinnamon rolls would be a complete failure, I tried the recipe from AR called Ninety Minute Cinnamon Rolls. It supplies a how to video, so I gave it a shot. I DID IT. They turned out so good, that I make another batch the next day.
My cooking tragedies
LOL, the thought of it still burns my tongue! On the Food Network there is a cook called the Pioneer Women. She made a pulled pork recipe one day and raved how her family LOVED it. It had a a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce in it and this was something I had NEVER used before. I gave it my best shot and was so excited for my family to eat supper that night....it took ONE small bite and you could see flames shooting from the tips of every strand of hair on our heads. My husbands bald head(bless his heart) was pouring with sweat as he tried to politely relay to me that I should NEVER make this again! Needless to say it was trashed, sadly as I dumped it in the garbage, my confidence slipped from adventuring off in a direction unknown by us week tongued people.

Super Easy Hummus
my go to hummus recipe. I simply love hummus. I cannot find tahini anywhere in my area, no surprise, so I searched a substitute and went with tablespoon full of peanut butter. I love it with a peanut butter

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos
WOW! My family loved these! Only couple small changes, made homemade black beans instead of kidney beans. Made homemade tortillas (why have I never done THAT before! with a recipe here from site). Did not put them in the oven...just filled already warm tortillas as they came off the grill. Added avacodo and salsa. Thanks for sharing. I would have never tried this without all the great reviews! Just sorry I didn't take a photo!

Cranberry Ice
Had a bag of cranberries begging to be used up. Ran across this recipe and thought my "ice cream" loving family would maybe go for it. They did! Made as recipe stated, but filled my ice trays, believe it took two (made a 1/2 batch) and froze. Then to the food processor to "cream" it up before serving. It was almost addicting to me...a little sweet and tart at the same time, like cranberries are. Thank you for posting!
