About this Cook
I was born in a small community and have lived here most of my life. I grew up on a homestead which in the early years had no running water, electricity or other creature comforts, just a two hole outhouse in back, white gas lanterns and a coal/wood cook stove. Here is where the seeds were planted for my love of raising, growing and preparing food for others. Nothing was so fun as the huge dinners prepared at harvest time for the threshing crews, dad's home cured hams, sausages and bacon, Mom's fresh churned butter and cottage cheese along with huge soup pots of ham and beans her fresh baked rolls pies and on rare occasions hand cranked ice cream. This is where my love of sharing food, cooking and fellowship began and I have been wearing a cooking apron continually since I was ten.
My favorite things to cook
If I had to choose I guess that Italian would rank at the top of the list because of the endless combination of meat, vegetables and cheeses as well as spices and wines that are available to create seemingly endless varieties of dishes to please the palate.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Probably like most American Families our cooking traditions center around the Holidays. My hams are a must each Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. My mother-in-laws recipe for bread, rolls, and buns are a must all year round. My mothers potato salad is hit every summer. Breakfast with pancakes in never complete without my wife's homemade chokecherry syrup and there is a 100 plus year-old green tomato pie recipe in vogue each fall
My cooking triumphs
My homemade barbecue sauce, holiday hams and my antelope salami have to be my triumphs as they are the one for which I get the most Oohs, Awes and requests for the recipe.
My cooking tragedies
My first attempt at a fresh berry pie aside from being burned, bitter and doughy one could say it had potential {:>)

April's Deviled Eggs
This is a great starting point for making deviled eggs. Since different people have different tastes for example if you have a hundred people in a room you may have half who like it and half who don't it can be adjusted to personal preferences . For our family's taste we cut the mustard in half then used a small slice of onion and 2 cloves of garlic chopped up very fine then added salt and pepper a little at a time to suite our taste. Seldome if ever do I use a recipe without tinkering with it.
