Chef John's Caramel Apple Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2013
This is superb-but the directions are rather vague. I did however, cheat by using a deep-dish 9" pastry shell. The sauce is a bit too much-I leftover sauce. I used organic small red delicious apples-great for this pie. I used my crunch recipe for topping-I got great raves from everyone-best pie ever made. BTW, this is my first time ever making a fruit pie! I will use this recipe again!! But directions needs to be more detailed..

al fresco Roasted Pepper and Asiago Chicken Sausage Frittata

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2012
I healthified this by using only eggwhites (six eggs), used fresh chopped red peppers, sauteed with fresh chopped garlic. Kid loved it and so did I! I am in love with al fresco!!

Italian Chicken Sausage Stuffed Portabellas

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2012
I am in love with Al Fresco!! This is perfect for anyone who is watching their diet!! I am so glad to discover this!! I did some changes to the recipe to make it more healthier. I used non-fat greek yogurt, chopped onion, fresh chopped chives, used non-stick spray for cooking sausage and baking pan. I did not mix the yogurt with chicken but instead layered it topping the sausage with fat-free mozzerella!! I did bake it however longer than 7-8 minutes due to making the mushroom more throughly baked-delish!

Marshmallow Fondant

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2012
This was easy to make. Very tasty especially when it sits awhile after being made. But, I did not have to use all of the 1 cup of powdered sugar reserved nor all of the 1/4 cup of butter to handle the fondant as it was unnecessary. Unfortunately, when rolled out after coming to room temp, it did crack and dried very quickly. Needs tweeking..or find a better recipe..my first attempt on making fondant-overall the taste was superb and birthday girl loved it..just difficult to decorate with..

Butterbeer IV

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
This is UBER SICKENING SWEET!! Even kiddo could not finish it, too sweet she said. Gonna have to thin it out with more milk. I would cut back on the condensed milk and instead of using brown sugar, use a touch of molasses..I just had a lick of the stuff-WHOA!! TOO MUCH!! I am a big sweet tooth but this is overpowering!

Cherry Tart Pops

Reviewed: Jan. 23, 2012
These are really good! Very easy to make, filling is very good. But using ready pie crust-not like the pastry that is used for pop tarts-not sweet. More like a hand pie. Kid loved it!

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
This was very good. To bring out the flavor of garlic, I chose to thinly slice, then slightly brown it the sauce pan with the butter. I did leave out the parsley and added black pepper to the mix. I put the sauce on spinach fettucini nests, added steamed broccoli and kiebasa. DD loved it and her guest who never had Alfredo before gobbled it up!

Slow Cooker Cherry Cobbler

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2012
I could not find any cherry in my local store, so I chose apple instead. It was finished by 2 hours-very easy. But, crust is very bland and I prefer baking instead. If need a quick dessert just for quick fix but certainly not great for entertaining/impressing guests with this one. I'll stick with baking and a better recipe.

Red Velvet Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2011
I just made the cake part due to the uneasiness of the vague directions and knew doing this method would not be good but, I did however, made the red velvet cake (very good) but I would have changed the directions of putting wet ingredients first, then slowly add dry ingredients for better blending and not just whisk everything. But still came out well. Then I made Breakstone's New York Cheesecake-fully baked, layered it with white chocolate frosting-the combination was TO DIE FOR!! I still give this a four since the outcome was overall a smash hit!

Real Welsh Rarebit

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Superb!! The only difference from this recipe is the tabasco sauce in which I switched out to 1/4 tsp of HQ cayenne pepper-so good and great comfort food!! Made this for my birthday dish and my dd loved it!! This dish is also great as appetizer just for dipping breads (warm app), fruits, crackers, veggies, served as fondue. We like it as a main dish, dipping our toasts into it! YUM!

Peanut Butter Noodles

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2011
I never reviewed this but I did make this at one time. I am not a soy lover and the soy was very overpowering! Even my daughter who was quite younger didn't like it. I would try it again only to cut back on the soy to a teaspoon.
