Finally, some summer weather! What a rainy, blah June it was here in Vernon. I probably shouldn't complain though because soon the temperatures will start to soar to 40 plus degrees C and I'll be wishing for the rain! Thank goodness for the awesome lakes the Okanagan has! BBQ season hit in… MORE

About this Cook
I am a nurse and am the mother to 3 fantastic young boys ages 13, 9, and 8
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy trying new recipes. There are not many dishes that I repeat regularly. They have to be really special to get placed in the Family Favorites Scrapbook that I have created. I make a killer lasagna and I my chili is to die for (in my opinion). I also have a rather extensive cookbook collection that I have to regularly weed out due to space constrictions.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We live only a few blocks from my parents and we alternate each year who makes Thanksgiving and Christmas. Whoever does Thanksgiving has a rest for Christmas and vice versa.
My cooking tragedies
My husband broke the tip of my good Henkel's chef's knife trying to separate frozen sausages.

The Amazing Swedish Meatball
I was looking for a fast meatball recipe and this recipe did not disappoint! They were flavourful and kept their moisture and I served them with pasta. On reading reviews regarding the salt content of the sauce - even though I didn't make it myself - I always air on the side of conservatism. Aside from baking (cakes breads etc) I always start with zero salt and add to taste from there. There is always sodium in added ingredients so I like to get a base before adding more. A tbsp of salt would have sent my alarms up immediately. LOL! Otherwise a great recipe and I will definitely file this in keepers.

Apple Pear Sauce
My house smelled absolutely amazing as this sauce simmered on the stove. So easy and economical when apples and pears are in season!

Asian Lettuce Wraps
I really liked this recipe. It had a unique flavour and was easy to make - my kids really liked it too! I didn't have water chestnuts on hand so I used celery instead to give it a nice crunch. Even better reheated as a leftover after the flavours mingled together. Thanks for this great recipe!
