My original intention was to start my menu planner challenge last week. And of course life happened; getting the flu/cold makes it hard to plan meals when you have no appetite, plus going back to work etc. So, I pushed it back a week. At least I'm keeping with the intention of planning my… MORE

About this Cook
I guess you could call me a foodie. I'm particularly fond of ethnic cuisine, especially Indian, Moroccan and Thai food. I could spend hours leafing through cookbooks. Food inspires me and is how I express my creativity.
My favorite things to cook
I love using my Dutch Oven for braising, baking, simple summer salads and I make an excellent roast chicken. One of my guilty pleasures is rice krispie treats! I've started playing with flavor profiles adding cardamom and toasted coconut.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up we always made cookies for holidays. Baking was something my Mom and I did together.
My cooking triumphs
I can't think of just one milestone but I can say, I'm a very good baker and this year, I've discovered how to cook minus a recipe. I'm learning the balance of salt, acid and oil.
My cooking tragedies
I burned oven mitts! Yes, in my first apartment out of college, I didn't realize the broiler was what I thought was the storage drawer. Or the time, I decided to pan sear a roast.

Roasted Acorn Squash Salad
Fantastic! I love the dressing. I added some poached chicken breast to make it a full dinner. Used a sharp white cheddar instead of goat cheese. Super easy & great flavor.

Spicy Orange Zest Beef
Very good! I used skirt steak which was great in this stir-fry, however next time I'll slice it thinner. I used less orange zest based upon other reviews so the ratio of orange to spice was perfect. Also, I added broccoli. I browned the beef first, removed it, added the broccoli & sauteed for a few minutes. Then added the green onion & beef back to the pan and followed the recipe.

Baked Brie
Scrumptious! Great savory, baked brie recipe that goes well with crackers or bread.
