My name is Charity and I graduated from Penn State in Hospitality Management and have been working as a Catering Director since 1999. Learned how to cook at a very early age (9) and been working on it ever since~ about 25 years...I am now living in Italy w/my husband (military move) and have so much free time to explore new foods and recipes. Also have gotten into photography. Check out my website www.travelsofanamericanfoodie.com for recipes and pictures!
My favorite things to cook
My favorite things to cook are anything new that I have not made before and then improving upon that recipe until it's perfect for me. I love to grill now- been doing it for about 5 years.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Big Polish family (I'm 50%) so lots of pasta from scratch, dumplings, gnocchi, pierogies, cabbage rolls, anything w/cabbage, sausages, noodles. Basically a combo of Polish/Hungarian/Italian foods. Southwestern PA is a melting pot for that area of Europe.
My cooking triumphs
Solely cooked for 125ppl (wedding) and with help of a friend, cooked for another friend's wedding of 100ppl- both buffets of course. Just grilled my first whole stuffed fish. Very proud moment for me. Also, the day I made grandma's cheese & potato pierogies and they tasted just like hers.
My cooking tragedies
Good lord, too many to name but that is how we learn! Recently, I made a Key Lime Pie- it never got firm which was a shame because my meringue turned out perfect from the help of my new KitchenAid Mixer (Artisan Red- lovely!) I'll just have to try again!
