Potato Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2014
I made this recipe exactly as written, which everyone should do if they plan to review any recipe. It was absolutely wonderful! I could have added an extra pinch of garlic salt, but they were really good. They tasted just like the ones my mom made when I was growing up. This is definitely a recipe I will use again and again. Thanks, Dave, for sharing the recipe.

Baked Beans II

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2014
I just made these baked beans exactly as written, except that I doubled the recipe and baked them in a 9 X 13-inch pan. In fact, they will come out of the oven in 4 minutes. I've already tasted them and they are way too sweet. I would definitely use this recipe again because they have a wonderful flavor, but I would have to cut the amount of brown sugar in half or less. I fixed them for a cookout we are attending in about 30 minutes. I hope our friends like extra sweet baked beans. Really good recipe overall.

Oven Scrambled Eggs

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2012
I will NEVER fix scrambled eggs on the stovetop again! I cut the recipe in half for the four of us, but we had some left over. I'm going to try reheating them for breakfast in the morning. These were delicious!

Tart Lemon Triangles

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2012
This is a really good recipe. I made it exactly as written, except that I doubled the filling. It is tart, but sweet. The crust is wonderful. My crust stuck to my pie plate but that was my fault for not greasing the plate enough. My family agreed that this one is a keeper!

Smashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2012
I fixed these potatoes for dinner tonight and we LOVED them! I did grind the herbs in a small food processor before adding the oil and butter. It worked really well. I doubled the recipe and the six of us (my parents ate with us tonight) finished all three pounds of potatoes. I think they would have eaten more if I'd had them. Both of our kids asked when I was planning to make them again. They can rest assured...it won't be long.

The Perfect Cinnamon Roll Icing

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
This one's a plate licker!!! It is absolutely delicious! I followed the recipe, except that I left out the milk and salt. It made the icing a little thicker, which we like. That allowed the icing to melt into the cinnamon rolls. I will never fix cinnamon rolls again without using this icing! Thanks for sharing the recipe, Cara!

Skillet Pasta and Beef Dinner

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2011
This was a very easy dish to make. I added one chopped onion, one Tablespoon oregano, and a teaspoon of minced garlic. After browning the beef and onion, adding the sauce, spices, pasta, and water, I simmered it for 10 minutes then transferred the mixture to a glass baking dish and topped it with the cheese. I baked it in a 350 oven for 20 minutes. Delicious!

French Toast I

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2011
One word....two syllables....PER-FECT! This is simple, but delicious! It could not be better. The tricks are to dip the bread (not soak it) and to have your skillet or griddle buttered and hot. Thanks for sharing Jan!

Glazed Salmon

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2010
I tried this exactly as written. I think that's only fair if I'm going to rate a recipe. We really did like the salmon, but there just wasn't a huge amount of taste from the glaze. I gave it five stars anyway because we did enjoy it. Overall, good recipe.

Smooth Sweet Tea

Reviewed: Jun. 11, 2010
I never would have believed how much of a difference a couple pinches of baking soda could make in a gallon of sweet tea. But, it does! There is no bitter after taste and the tea does not get strong after being refrigerated overnight. Thank you for the great tip!

Quick and Easy Vegetable Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 6, 2009
I just made this soup. It's delicious. I doubled the recipe, but tripled all the liquids since we like lots of broth. I substituted beef broth for the water. I also added a grated onion. The onion makes a world of difference in the taste. And, I added 1 teaspoon Tony Chachere's Original Creole Seasoning and 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning. The Creole Seasoning gives it quite a bit of heat. This is a really good recipe.

Butterscotch Oatmeal

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2009
I love this oatmeal. I just made it exactly as it's written and am sitting here eating a bowl right now. I can hardly wait for my wife and kids to get out of bed so I can serve it to them. This is a definite keeper! BTW, I made it with quick-cooking oats and it is perfect.

Marshmallow Treats

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2009
I made this exactly as the recipe was written, except I put them in a 9 X 9 inch pan because we like them thicker. Also, I did not press them down in the pan. They were delicious, but I would have preferred more marshmallow. The next time, I will add an extra cup or two.

I followed the recipe exactly. It's a great chocolate cake recipe! This was easy to make, very moist and chocolatey, and was gobbled up quickly by our kids. It will be my new go-to recipe for chocolate cake. Thanks for sharing the reicpe, shirleyo.

The Old Boy's Strawberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
This pie is delicious! I followed the recipe exactly as it's written, as I always do the first time I make a new recipe. This pie was so good that our 10 year old daughter told a friend who called while we were eating it, "You need to come over here and try this awesome pie my dad just made". It's very unusally, but very good. I've never had a baked strawberry pie before, but we WILL have it again. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Fresh Rhubarb Pie

Reviewed: May 16, 2009
I've been making Rhubarb Pie for 30 years, but this recipe is far and away better than the one I've always used. My kids, who thought they hated Rhubarb Pie, absolutely loved this one. Thanks for sharing it!

Chicken Cordon Bleu I

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
Our oldest daughter absolutely loves Chicken Cordon Bleu. She was not disappointed with the results from this recipe. I followed the recipe exactly, except that I rolled the chicken in melted butter before I dredged them in the bread crumbs. They were impressive enough that I could have served them to company, but easy enough to fix quickly for dinner after I come home from work. I served them with mashed potatoes and fried corn, which was perfect. This is a great recipe.
