Split Pea Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2013
Confession: I never really cared for Split Pea soup when I ordered it in a restaurant; but my boyfriend is a big fan, so I decided to make it after Christmas (to use the leftover spiral sliced ham on the bone from our Christmas dinner). Well, I am officially converted! It was my first time making Split Pea Soup and I have to say that it was EXCELLENT! Thanks for sharing the recipe bluebayou! This one is definitely a keeper! :)

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
I tweaked this recipe a bit, but absolutely loved this! I started by sauteing leftover bacon pieces, (I added a little bit of EVOO too) then threw in the ground turkey, a softball sized red onion (chopped) and one chopped green bell pepper. I cooked it until veggies were tender and turkey was browned. I threw in all of the spices and cooked the mixture for a few minutes (to set in the flavor) Then I added the tomatoes, one can of kidney beans, one can of chili beans, and (instead of water) one can of low sodium chicken broth. I brought it up to a boil and simmered for at least 30 minutes. I turned off the burner and let it thicken as it cooled a bit. Excellent! I will definitely make this again!

Bacon Wrapped Smokies

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
Delicious! My BF was skeptical, but he changed his mind after he tried them. I baked mine on the non-stick tin foil, but the best part is to let them cool a little and let the drippings (bacon fat and brown sugar) start to thicken into a kind of syrup on the bottom of the smokies...yum! Next time I'll try using maple flavored bacon (as was suggested by another user). Thanks JILL1018! :)

Hasty Chocolate Pudding

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
EXCELLENT! Oh my goodness, this recipe is AMAZING! This was sooo much better than those store bought boxes! This recipe was great as written, but I really wanted to try using Dark Chocolate cocoa, and I have to say...It was also amazing! (especially if you like dark chocolate) I do have to mention that I did take the advice of the other reviewers and stirred in a Tbsp of butter after it reached the consistancy that I wanted. Delish! A must try! Thanks for sharing this amazing recipe Debra! :)

Breakfast Sausage

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
I was debating over whether to follow the directions as written, or make some of the changes that other cooks mentioned in their reviews. I decided to follow the directions as written, and I'm glad that I did. My boyfriend and I LOVED them! We both thought that the recipe as written was great, I guess it just depends on your tastes. What I really loved is that it did not have any of the other...shall I say "stuff"....that is in the prepared breakfast sausage at the store. Thanks for the recipe Lee, we will definitely be making these in the future!

Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Biscuits

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2011
Just got done making these, and my pug, Buster, LOVES them! (He also really liked licking the bowls during the mixing process) I loved this recipe, because I had (just about) everything on hand already. (The only thing I didn't have was Wheat Germ, so I swapped it out with oatmeal.) I cut them in little Noah's Ark shapes, so they kinda looked like cute little animal crackers. (Although, I'm sure he could have cared less about the shapes.) Thanks for sharing Sandra! :)

Amazing! I absolutely LOVE this recipe. Yummy! (I hope I can stop eating little spoonfuls of it, otherwise, we won't have any left for Thanksgiving dinner!)

Vodka Mocha Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
OK, I've learned my lesson, I will read reviews BEFORE I make the recipe. Unfortunately, this time I didn't have enought time to read the reviews, or at least one relly important review from Diana who warned others not to use the 5.9 oz of pudding, use the smaller pack instead. Like her review predicted, my cake fell. It looks awful, and the taste is just OK. So, for everyone wanting to make this recipe DO NOT USE 5.9 OZ OF PUDDING!

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2010
I loved this recipe! It tasted like something you would order at a really good Italian restaurant. Although I usually make the recipe as it is written, but I doubled the amount of spinach, and increased the garlic (4 cloves), and used a 20 oz package of refrigerated tortellini (I couldn't find a 16 oz). So delicious and sooo easy! Yummy! :)

Cheese Dip with Beer

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I'm not a beer fan, but my friends were raving about a cheese dip made with beer, so I decided to try it, and, well, you won me over. I loved it! It really went well with cauliflower and broccoli! Next time I'll try it with just garlic powder (there's enough salt in the cheese). Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Spinach Triangles

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
Very easy to make, but I think that it needed some garlic (that would bring out the flavor of the spinach and the feta cheese). This was the first time that I used puff pastry, and they turned out gorgeous! Thanks for the recipe!

Peppered Shrimp Alfredo

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
Followed the recipe exactly, and still felt like it needed a little something that I couldn't quite put my finger on. I thought it was really easy to make, and loved the consistency, but next time, I will buy a better quality jarred alfredo sauce, increase the garlic, and decrease the cayenne pepper. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Easy Rum Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2010
I made this for New Years Eve, and my boyfriend and I loved it! It was really moist, and did have a rum flavor that wasn't overpowering like other rum cakes that I have tried. The only thing I changed was substituting the oil for unsweetened applesauce. Loved it! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

My boyfriend made this for me after a long day at school :) He used Cinnamon-Raisin Bread, so he eliminated the cinnamon, and it was wonderful! Thanks for the great recipe Jan!
