As far as cooking is concerned I consider myself to be somewhere between beginner and intermediate. This is because I love to try new things. This invariably puts me at "step one." I do most of the cooking in our home and enjoy doing so. I think my wife enjoys it that way as well! I love to hear her say, "this is a do-again!"
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook just about anything if I can find the ingredients! A recently purchased Kitchenaid has opened a whole new world of cooking for me. I have finally gotten the feel for baking breads. I’ve even managed to “invent” a few good recipes. The latest: Honey Oatmeal Raisin Bread! I've quickly reached the point that having to read and follow the step-by-step recipe to whip up a couple loaves of bread is a thing of the past now that I have the basics down. There is so much freedom in that! There have been just as many failures as there have been successes along the way. I simply save the successes and build upon them. Those successes have taught techniques I can more easily apply to new recipes.
We have also acquired a good set of stainless cookware so now I am enjoying the miracle of lemon... an absolute "no-no" with the nonstick cookware. Indeed, lemon and the Kitchenaid have opened two whole new universes in the kitchen!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Virtually every Saturday evening my mom would cook lasagne. My brother, sister and I were always free to invite our friends to the "feast." They rarely declined. It was always great fun to gather with friends and family around a good pan of lasagne. Mom and Dad are gone now and my wife and I live hundreds of miles away but when I cooking lasagne those good memories of friends and family always return. Thanks, Mom! You're the best!
My cooking triumphs
Baking my own bread recipes! Finishing a meal and hearing my wife say, "This is a definite 'do-again!'"
My cooking tragedies
Too many to remember! However, that goes with the program!
