Black-Eyed Peas With Collard Greens and Turnips

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2014
Okay, I feel that I made this dish but i did change some things. I used canned black-eyed peas instead of dried, frozen greens instead of fresh, and grape tomatoes instead of the regular sized ones. I also used potatoes instead of turnips because I had no turnips. (I used what I had in the house.) This is really a good recipe! I followed your instructions except for the dried bean part. The vinaigrette dressing added just the right sweet and acid for the greens. I did add a little red pepper to mine because I like red pepper in greens but this was a super recipe without it! By the way, using the canned peas, my dish was done in about 20 minutes.

Pulled Pork Hash

Reviewed: May 26, 2014
I love hashes of all varieties and this is a really good idea! I found it very appealing to my hash love and a good way to change up pulled pork leftovers. My pulled pork was from a picnic roast that I had used to make some posole. I was relieved to find something besides BBQ to use up the meat I had left. I like spicy foods, so I did add a little more cayenne. Serving this with a nice over-easy or soft poached egg is just perfect. I will make this again.

Sweet Marie Bars

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
I found the bars to be VERY sweet. I can only take one small piece at a time... these should last a while. They are very good. The icing I found to be VERY lacking. used about 4 TBSP cocoa powder to get the level of chocolate flavor I wanted for these super sweet bars. I am keeping the recipe, but next time I'll probably try a different cereal and possibly add nuts.

Banana Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2013
Be sure to bake the cake long enough. It is a dense, moist cake but it still needs to baked at least 60 minutes to get it done. Once done, I think it is one of the nicest, most satisfying cakes I've made yet.

Banana and Peanut Butter Pancakes

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2013
I gave this 2 stars because I found the flavor really nice, even though I threw them all away. I wanted to make something different and special for breakfast today, and I had no eggs. This sounded perfect. I followed the recipe except that I doubled the ingredients. The results were dense and way too "moist". They were not fluffy and even when the outside was way too brown, the center had a wet texture as if it were not fully cooked. I will not make these again. ever.

Eggless Zucchini Granola Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 25, 2013
I wrote this recipe. This bread has a very moist texture, more like a brownie than a traditional muffin, which I like. I think adding raisins, dried cherries, or other dried fruits would only add to it. I was surprised at how much I liked it, even though it is not very sweet. I'm keeping it and submitting it for review.

Blueberry Cream Bars

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2013
I am the person who submitted this recipe. I left out one VERY important ingredient. Please fold in 1-1/2 cups fresh blueberries with the oats, on step 7. This recipe would just not be the same with the added berries!

Maple Syrup Custard Cups

Reviewed: May 11, 2013
This is a very nice, simple recipe. I am trying to watch my diet but I still like treats sometimes, so I changed this by using a good quality sugar free syrup and skim milk. Those changes gave a nice product with half the calories of the original version, per serving (about 105 calories / 1/6 of the recipe). Thanks for this easy recipe!

Johnsonville® One-Pan Italian

Reviewed: Apr. 1, 2013
This was really good and really simple. It hit the spot after a long day at work, without having to stress over making a good dinner. I used the Johnsonville chicken & pork mild Italian sausage, which is lower in fat, and followed the rest of the recipe exactly. I was worried about all that water, but it cooked down nicely and looked just like photo #1. It was thick and nice, not soupy at all! Topped with a little parmesan and a small side salad, this dish is tasty and satisfying without being labor-intensive. Super recipe!

Round Steak and Gravy II

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2013
I make this a lot and enjoy it. However, I do prefer a couple of changes- I use Golden Mushroom soup, and I add sliced onions and mushrooms on the top of the steak before adding the soup and water. I like this flavor better. But this is a good, simple recipe.

Texas Egg Rolls

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2013
Don't let the simplicity fool you! This is a wonderful recipe. I have always had problems with the breading coming off Chili Rellenos when cooking. This is the answer to that problem. Crispy outside with the wonderful pepper and cheese inside. Perfect. Great Idea. The only thing I changed was to use shredded cheddar-jack instead of sliced cheese, and fresh Anaheim peppers that I roasted first. I will be making this again!

Fideo (Mexican Spaghetti)

Reviewed: Jan. 5, 2013
I made this recipe, using canned tomatoes with green chilis. I also doubled the cumin and chili powder because I really like those flavors. This is a very good recipe, but I felt it just needed more spice. I also used fideo pasta, which is basically vermicelli broken into pieces about 2" long.

Cinnamon Toast

Reviewed: Feb. 1, 2011
This is comfort food at its most basic. I gave it 4 stars because I think it's better to do what my Granny and Mom do - Set it up as in the recipe, but then put it under the broiler for a couple minutes until the sugar just starts to bubble and caramelize... it's really good! Poor Man's Cinnabon! :)

Vinegar Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2011
I was amazed at how nice this pie is. I used 1 full cup of pecans, and that was my only change. The filling was not super sweet but still wonderful. This pie was all about the pecans, and not the syrupy custard that most pecan pies have. I will definitely make this again!

Feta and Sun-Dried Tomato Stuffed Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 4, 2010
I made this as written. I found the flavors were wonderful. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that I found it was a little dry. I think I would have liked it better if there were a light sauce of some sort to go with it. Great recipe, though!

Asian Fire Meat

Very good recipe, as written. I did Jullienne the carrots instead of chopping them, for prettier presentation.. Next time I will probably add more pepper flakes and maybe some fresh ginger. Thanks for the recipe.
