I think I was born in the wrong era.  I love the old time recipes and the old time way.  Of course, I wouldn't give up electricity or my washer and dryer, but there are a few things to be said about the good old days.  For instance, recipes made from scratch are the best.  I even like to have… MORE

'Tis the season to be jolly, but it's hard when the money supply is running low and I still have twenty more to buy for.  As the Christmas season tumbles on, I wonder if it is even worth hauling out the decorations and spending all my hard-earned cash.  Every where I turn someone has their… MORE

I have been putting baskets together for teacher's gifts.  One of the teachers in my building loves Coca Cola and loves playing games.  Her basket consists of a large bowl, Coca Cola playing cards, Coca Cola, two large dice, popcorn, and Chex mix.  Another teacher will be receiving a mixing… MORE

About Me
I am a homeschooling mother of three. My oldest graduated in 2012 & my other two will graduate in the next two years! Time is flying by and I have yet to figure out how to keep my life organized...maybe one day.
My favorite things to cook
Cajun cuisine is my favorite. Growing up in Louisiana has made me partial to the seafood and fried foods. Desserts are my specialty. I like to cook for crowds and love to serve people. I enjoy hosting all kinds of parties-tea parties with finger foods and bar-b-Ques with bon fires.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Love boiling crawfish with the family!
My cooking triumphs
Making gravy! For years after I was married I tried gravy every way I was told and it never worked. It was mostly like dumplings it was so lumpy. One day I met a lady who told me the simplest solution. "All you do is add the same amount of oil as flour and brown the flour then add your liquid." Been doing it for many moons now...
My cooking tragedies
One September day I was in the kitchen getting ready for supper. I had started the flour and oil for gravy and left the room-and forgot! I heard crackling and popping and ran into the kitchen to find the stove, microwave above, and cabinets engulfed in flames. I screamed to my children to get their father while I began to spray the fire with the fire extinguisher. The fire was put out and the damage was done. We had to redo only a couple of cabinets, paint the ceiling, and get a new range and microwave. Thank God it was minimal damage! My father sells fire extinguishers and he had just given us that one...I will never be without an extinguisher and I will never walk out of the kitchen while cooking.
