Portobello Mushroom Pasta

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2003
Didn't have any zucchini - which would have made it better. But I did add garlic salt, rosemary, and basil as it was cooking. Really tasty.

Cranberry Hootycreeks

Reviewed: Jun. 8, 2003
Too dry (even with the tricks tried in earlier reviews); tastes exactly like a pat of salty butter. The cranberries and other flavors do not make themselves apparent.

Deviled Eggs II

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2003
This is close to the recipe my granny and momma always used - both true southern cooks. These are not true "deviled" eggs - it takes hot sauce, such as Tabasco, to get that fine distinction. One thing I do differently is use Tarragon vinegar which adds just that extra touch. Any function I take these to ... my batch always disappears first.

Strawberries and Wine

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2003
Maybe I did something wrong ... like maybe a more distinct wine should have been used. We didn't think it was that great.

Waaaaay too bland.

Aunt Jewel's Chicken Dressing Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2004
As suggested by some other reviewers, I also added some seasonings to the chicken when cooking so I could have some chicken stock for other recipes. I've tried this with the cornbread and regular stuffing and the cornbread stuffing just "kicks it up a notch".

Brown Sugar Sauce

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2005
Used the cream as suggested. I really couldn't serve this because I kept sneaking a taste and there almost was not enough left. :-) It's really wonderful and I think it would be okay without the brandy if you don't have that on hand.

Jimmy Dean 6-Layer Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: May 30, 2005
It tasted okay but it was very dry. I've had breakfast casserole in the past and it was much better than this. I think maybe something has been left out or the steps are wrong. Avoid this one.

Tangy Cucumber and Avocado Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 5, 2005
I need to try this recipe again with a riper avocado. It was not bad tasting but it didn't blow me away. I did add some cumin and red pepper to give it some kick.

Basil Vinaigrette Dressing

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2005
I'm doing a low-carb diet - so I substituted Splenda for the honey. It was still tasty.

Avocado Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 7, 2005
I use lemons instead of limes. Never tried it with the green peppers - but I bet that would be good.

Broccolini with Seasoned Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2005
Substituted broccoli - but will try the broccoline since I have a recipe now. Used the Lemon-Pepper/Dill version and it was really tasty. AND - it was quick and easy!

Spicy Peach-Glazed Pork Chops

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2005
Substitutes: Sugar Free Apricot preserves in place of Peach preserves and red pepper flakes in place of chili paste. This was really tasty, simple, and quick. It has an Asian flavor to it. I served Herb Buttered broccoli and sliced tomatos with it. I should have taken a photo because all the colors gave it a nice presentation. We both loved it so I will make it again. I would even consider this a nice enough recipe to serve to company.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2005
This recipe was tasty and received rave reviews from the family. The only thing I did wrong was use the low sodium soup. We just ended up adding more salt from the shaker - so it was worse than just using the real soup. In short, the salt is an essential ingredient for taste.

Suzy's Mashed Red Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2005
These had a good taste. I did warm the milk - but I added too much. I didn't quiet use 2 lbs of potatoes thus I didn't need as much milk. So my advice to myself and to you is to add the milk until you get the consistency you are seeking.

Awesome Broccoli-Cheese Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2005
Mine did not thicken but I think I did something wrong. When I make it again - I will add the salt and the pepper to the mixture instead of on top. It was slightly bland but would most likely please a crowd. I added almonds to provide more crunch and subsituted Cheeze-its for the Ritz crackers which worked out well.

Amazing Pork Tenderloin in the Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2005
The next time I make this I will use beef broth instead of red wine. The red wine adds a tang that doesn't really compliment the meat. I used a CA Cab. Sav. - so maybe a Pinot or less bold red would have been okay.

Crostini

Quick! Easy! Yummy! Instead of rolling the bread in the cheese I just placed little piles of it on the bread. It seemed easier and worked okay.

Fruited Curry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2006
This was really great. I also added the honey to the recipe. I did some substitutions for some of the veggies - like adding red peppers. I think that's what makes this recipe a good base for what you have in your frig.
