Heart-Shaped Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
FABULOUS coffee cake! The directions were confusing to read but easy to understand as I made it. I was going to pass on making it until sassyoldlady explained and offered her help. I would have really missed out on a great tasting recipe, so thank you Sassy! My intentions were to make it today but I stayed up and made it late last night. What a wonderful treat to have with our coffee this morning. I just warmed it 15 seconds in the microwave. I used bread machine yeast as it was all I had. I also added 1/2 cup raisins which I plumped first and mixed with 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Be sure to chop the walnuts fine. I almost didn't. Once I tasted it, I saw how important that was to spreading the flavor. I put the icing in a squeeze bottle to apply. Thank you Norma Hammond for sharing your recipe and giving us such a FABULOUS coffee treat!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
Exactly like a peanut butter cup tastes! I did not make any changes to the recipe but I did use a brush to apply the chocolate to the cup liners as I wanted a thin coat of chocolate. I had no problem removing the paper liners. The hardest part was waiting for them to firm. Thank you SHAUNNSMOM for sharing your recipe.

Swedish Rye Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2011
SWEET! Loved the sweet flavor and crunchy crust. I used all the ingredients called for plus vital wheat gluten and caraway seeds. I took the advice of Dmseck and gave the loaves an egg wash prior to baking. There are only two of us but I made the whole recipe instead of half. I will be freezing two loaves. One is already gone! Thank you Mary Ann Ross for sharing your recipe!

NY Style Rye Crackers

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2011
PERFECT! We loved the caraway flavor! No changes were needed and the timing was perfect. I made three different sizes to fit the shapes of the cheeses we are using. I did sprinkle them with salt as we enjoy our crackers salty. This was the first time I had ever made crackers and I really enjoyed the new experience. Thank you BigShotsMom for sharing your PERFECT recipe!

Amazing Peanut Butter Cup Biscotti

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
I am the submitter of this recipe and I want to add that I changed it to read "Jif extra crunchy peanut butter" as I do feel the quality of peanut butter is important plus the crunchy gives it a more peanutty taste. I also increased the Reese's chips once I found it didn't make it too "heavy". Thank you to everyone who tries it. I appreciate your feed back!

Cranberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2011
EXCELLENT! I didn't realize I had used some of the cranberries so I weighed them on my kitchen scale. Since I only had 9 ozs. I made 3/4 the recipe. My daughter makes this for our family Thanksgiving (with walnuts), so I knew it would be good. EXCELLENT as always. Thank you Toni for sharing!! (I only wish I had the walnuts)

Rice Surprise

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2011
This was good but it was better once I added some coconut. I'm rating it 4 stars because the recipe does not tell you how much water to use for boiling the rice and that is needed information. I decided to make rice for dinner and use 1 cup cooked rice for this recipe because rice triples when cooked. The recipe was good but was lacking something so I added some coconut and it was perfect for our tastes. Thank you Honda for sharing your recipe, we really enjoyed it!

Gelatin Marshmallow Pinwheels

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2011
ATTRACTIVE, TASTEFUL, & CREATIVE! When I saw these, I knew I had to try them. They were fun to make and so easy. I was amazed at the way the marshmallow came to the top and how fast they set up. I placed them on individual papers to make them easy to pick up. There are so many creative ways to use this recipe. I'm thinking of stacking different colors and cutting with a cookie cutter in place of rolling. Thank you Suzzanna for sharing such an ATTRACTIVE, TASTEFUL, & CREATIVE recipe!

Sage Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
VERY NICE! I used thinner pork chops and cooked for less time. After reading some reviews, I decided not to add salt. It could always be added later if needed. I still found the results very salty but Hubby did not. It had to have come from the bouillon. I think the addition of onions would have made this even better. Next time I think I'll substitute the bouillon and water with pork gravy. Thank you Tiffany Nixon for sharing such a VERY NICE recipe!

Syrupy Apples

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
VERY NICE! I made this according to the recipe but next time I will add cinnamon. We had it as a side for pork chops and it went very well. It was a nice replacement for applesauce. Thank you Cindy Walstedt for sharing your recipe!

Little Lemon Meringue Pies

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
These little pies are AMAZING! I had never made a lemon meringue pie before, so this was something new for me. I did notice that the recipe does not tell you to add the last 2 tablespoons of sugar to the meringue. I checked another recipe and saw that the meringue should have sugar, so I added it gradually to the egg white and cream of tartar. They came out perfect and oh so good! I will be making this again but next time I will at least double the recipe. This could also be made without the crust if you are looking to cut some calories, but that would mean giving up a very tasty part. Thank you Kathy Zielicke for sharing such an AMAZING recipe!! I highly recommend this!

Home Fried Cheese Sticks

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2011
YUMMY! Such a nice coating and they froze so well. I took them out of the hot oil as soon as they browned so as not to burn. I followed that up with a few seconds in the microwave to be sure they were done inside. I served them with "Clone of a Pretzel Dip" and they were so yummy. They made a great addition to our "dippers". Thank you mis7up for sharing you YUMMY recipe! I added it to my cookbook and it has definitely found a home at our house.

Rachel's Cranberry Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2011
FANTASTIC! What a terrific way to use left over chicken. I didn't measure a thing because I didn't feel it was necessary. My changes were to skip the green onion, used red apple for green apple, and almond slices for pecans. That's because it was what I had on hand. I love the way the dried cranberries add a sweetness and the nuts add the crunch. Such a FANTASTIC easy recipe. Thank you for sharing Rachel! You made my day!!

Honey Roasted Carrots

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
SOOO GOOD! I used baby carrots. These carrots went perfect with the "Simple Slow Roast Chicken" I was baking. As I had the chicken already in the oven, I partially cooked the carrots then drizzled with olive oil and honey. I, too, am guilty of not measuring which makes this recipe very easy. I put the carrots in the oven (which was set at 250 degrees) for the last 2 hours of baking the chicken. Thank you FrackFamily5 for sharing your recipe! We really had a FrackFamily5 dinner that was very yummy!!

Simple Slow Roast Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2011
TENDER, MOIST, & FLAVORFUL! I followed the recipe exactly but used my unglazed ceramic stoneware to bake it. I baked it for 4 1/2 hours and it fell off the bones. The red wine and seasonings made it very flavorful. Thank you FrackFamily5 for sharing your recipe! We really enjoyed it!

Pretzel Dogs

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2011
AMAZING! These are ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I was surprised at just how easy they were to make and fun too. I made half the recipe because there was only two of us. It was perfect for one package of hot dogs. The grandkids are going to love them. Thank you WFDM for sharing your AMAZING recipe and a special thank you for recommending my dip! UPDATE - Today I made the pretzel dogs with cheese. I used American cheese which I sliced with a pizza wheel, making it thinner than the dough strips. I pressed the cheese into the dough strips a little then wrapped the dogs. It was necessary to seal the edges between the strips so they would hold up in the water. This all worked well; but, when I baked them, the cheese oozed out the ends. I posted a photo to show the oozing cheese. They tasted great but my conclusion is they really don't need the cheese. I made these to freeze because I found that they freeze so well. I put them in the microwave frozen and heat at half power. They taste as good as fresh baked! Try these, you don't know what you're missing!

Sweet Rice

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
SMOOTH & CREAMY! This is not overly sweet. I thought I had made it wrong because it wasn't thick like other rice puddings. I researched Arroz con Leche and found it is "soupier" than American rice puddings. I cooked it a little longer to thicken to my preference, and once it cooled, it was perfect. SMOOTH & CREAMY! Thank you crys7422 for sharing your recipe. I learned something new tonight!

French Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
EXCELLENT! I only made one loaf because that's what would fit in my bread machine. My only substitution was to use all-purpose flour and add vital wheat gluten. (1 T per cup of flour) This went perfect with tonight's soup. Thank you Janet Vink for sharing such an EXCELLENT recipe!

Lobster Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2011
EXCELLENT! I did, however make some changes. I used can lobster as I could not bear to use fresh lobster in a soup unless it was left over, which never happens at our house. I added worcestershire sauce, sherry, Old Bay, white pepper and paprika. I substituted heavy cream for the light cream. My only wish is that I had written down the amounts. I just did it to taste, and it was "knock your socks off" good! Thank you Dorothy for such an EXCELLENT recipe.
