Thanksgiving is a time to remember the things you are thankful for.  This year I don't have to go back very far to realize just how lucky I am.  Hurricane Sandy changed many peoples lives and living at the Jersey shore gave my family a lot to be thankful for. The night of the storm was very… MORE

About this Cook
I have been happily married for 46 years and we have 2 grown children and 4 grandchildren. My son and his family live nearby and my daughter and her family live 3 hours away.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking things I can be creative with. My favorite thing to make is a new recipe. Using fresh grown herbs and home grown vegetables has added a lot of satisfaction to my cooking. I love presentation and the WOW factor! Catching fish in the morning and having them for dinner is a real treat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Easter I hold the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Each year it grows more as the family expands. We spend Thanksgiving with my daughter's family near Hershey Pa. On even years, my son and his family join us. Good food, good times in the kitchen, good friends, and football, followed by early morning shopping and a night at Hershey Park for the kids.
My cooking triumphs
My sister and I made my mother's wedding cake when, as a widow, she married one of my dad's friends. I don't think anything could top the feeling of finding one of my recipes mentioned in a magazine.
My cooking tragedies
While delivering a cake to my husband's workplace, my little one sat on it! I took the cake home, called hubby and the guys said "bring it anyway!" Fortunately, it had plastic wrap. Also, I set off the fire alarm at Disney World's Fort Wilderness while cooking bacon. The fire car came with it's lights flashing. It was soooo embarrassing.

Christmas Cinnamon Pears
PERFECT! I was looking for a dessert that would be "light" and this was PERFECT even though it wasn't Christmas. I loved the way the cinnamon flavored the pears. I didn't have pear halves but I did have sliced pears, so I used them. Hubby and I both agree this would be great using apples as well. Thank you Erin for sharing your recipe!

Cranberry Pistachio Biscotti
YUM! I made this recipe for my mother for Mother's Day. She mentioned at Christmas time that she thought this would be something she would really like. Life got in the way at Christmas but Mother's Day is going to catch her by surprise. I gave it a taste test and it's a definite 5 stars! Thank you Gerry Meyer for sharing your recipe!

Grilled Cipollini Onions
AWESOME! My only change was to add little red potatoes to the skewers. I tossed them in olive oil and sprinkled with garlic salt. The onions were done according to the recipe. The cooking time was the same for both. I had a hard time finding the cipollini onions but that is because I was looking for them in a mesh bag. I found them in the refrigerated section of the produce department in a little plastic container already peeled. I love these little guys and now I'm searching for cipollini to plant in my garden. Thank you FrackFamily5 for sharing this AWESOME recipe!
