When I think of butter, memories of my granny flood my mind and I am transported back in time.
I spent many happy hours watching and trying to help her churn butter – more than likely, I was in her way but she never let me know.
The actual making of the butter was a lengthy, arduous task…
My love and addiction for cooking/baking were inherited from my grandmother. My earliest memories are of being in her kitchen, standing in a chair and helping her make bread. My grandmother was a very wise woman and a wonderful cook. She always insisted the secret ingredient to any recipe is LOVE. So now, when my daughter or grandchildren, ask why something I have prepared tastes so good, I just smile and say: "I used a secret ingredient my grandmother told me about and they reply - "Yes Nee-na, we know your secret, it is LOVE." Then the next question: "Is this recipe from Allrecipes?" God has blessed me with a loving husband, daughter and grandchildren. "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15
My favorite family cooking traditions
Each year, the grandkids come to "Nee-Na & Papa's" and we make rolled sugar cookies for Christmas, package them all up and then we personally deliver them to the seniors in our neighborhood. Everyone looks forward to receiving the cookies and a personal visit from the kids.
My cooking tragedies
We were having guests over and I was preparing a pizza from scratch, upon removing the pizza from the oven, I dropped it upside down on the floor! Embarassing to me then but it has now become a happy recollection.
