About this Cook
I'm a retired realtor who loves to entertain and cook for my family and friends. I also love outdoor activities including cross country skiing, gardening, sailing, hiking, walking. I've travelled more extensively than average and hope to continue to do so.
My favorite things to cook
A different dinner every night. I've been doing it since my kids were little. I love trying new recipes and the ones my family really likes get repeated occasionally.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas gingerbread house decorating. I made my own template many years ago so the houses are big. I decorated with my cousins' kids when they were little and now they're helping me do it with my grandchildren.
My cooking triumphs
I just won a chili contest - first place by unnanimous agreement of all the judges. It is no longer "Sarah's could win a prize chili". I now call it Sarah's prize winning chili. I made up the recipe by going online and looking at a bunch of recipes and picking ingredients that I thought would work and it did!
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make angel food cake and it was a huge flop. That was at least 30 years ago and I've never tried again. I'll let my sister remain the queen of the angel food cake. Her's is excellent!

Butternut Squash Soup II
Very good but a little bland still even after adding 1 tblsp. curry 1 tsp. garlic powder and 2 apples. I also cut it to one potato as someone else suggested. I think next time I'll add 2 Tblsp. curry and a pinch of cayenne.

Cherry Tomatoes Filled with Goat Cheese
I've made it twice now. My bridge group just loves it! The cherry tomatoes I used were so large that I just cut them in half. It was much easier to remove the seeds that way too. Both times I varied the recipe by using 1/4 cup feta cheese, 1/4 cup sour cream and 1/4 cup of my home made pesto. Just mixed it altogether and spooned it into the tomato halves. Lots of great flavor and I love these little appetizers too!

Sopapilla Cheesecake Dessert
I made this recipe with "multigrain" crescent rolls which I had bought by mistake. I don't think it made any difference to the taste but maybe a wee bit healthier. I also added fresh cut up peaches, mango and apricots before adding the last layer of crescent roll. I think that made it better and would add even more fruit next time. I found the filling to be a little gooey and am trying to think of a way to make it more like the firmness of regular cheesecake. I'm thinking of adding eggs next time and par cooking it before adding it to the pan. Input from anyone else out there would be appreciated. It go rave review from all who ate it, including my husband who doesn't like cheesecake (finds it too rich) so I will definitely be making it again.
