These are GOOD! I really liked this recipe a lot. I've tested out a few homemade sloppy joe recipes over the years and have been "meh" on most of them. Some are too "barbecuey", some have too much chili powder for my taste - but having a Goldilocks and the Three Bears… MORE

I stumbled over this little baking treasure at weeklybite.com and was instantly curious when I saw a big header stating: The Famous Compost Cookie… What in heavens name was a compost COOKIE??! Yes, I'm fully versed in compost - we've been composting for years, Kenneth even built a big wooden… MORE

I believe the inspiration behind this occasional family weekend breakfast favorite came from Denny's scrambles! When I lived in Washington State there were many occasions for a Denny's visit - sometimes for a family gathering at breakfast, sometimes for a hang out with friends into the… MORE

Hubby asked for cookies and ice cream last night, and we could have used the last two Chewy Chips Ahoy but I thought HEY this gives me a "valid" excuse to do some baking tonight! And off I went! I went to my AllRecipes.com recipe box folder and looked through my chocolate chip… MORE

This is one we've started making a little more often around here, and some of the ingredients seem to vary based on what we have in the fridge and are in the mood for! Right now our refrigerator is pretty full so I didn't want to just make something brand new, and instead decided on a dish… MORE

For breakfast yesterday morning I tried out Banana Scones, which I'd seen here! They looked fantastic. I made a few changes and decided against making the cream glaze, although I have a feeling the glaze is awesome and would really "make" these scones! As it was I thought they came… MORE

For Breakfast today I had a medium banana (in the car on the way to the office!), 1 slice honey whole grain toast (from Great Harvest which I happen to think makes the BEST bread in the whole wide world, if you have one near you and haven't tried them out do yourself a favor and stop by and… MORE

I was linked to this recipe from Heather's Dish which linked me to the Picky Palate! I have been in the mood for tacos with corn tortillas but Kenneth says he's had too much Mexican lately - I guess I have been craving it a lot, between 2 visits to Chili's, a visit to Moe's and fixing it … MORE

About Me
I love preparing meals for my family, I grew up eating home cooked dinners as a child, and felt that time around the table was very special. It gives me a LOT of pleasure to prepare something my family enjoys!
My favorite things to cook
I cook with a lot of chicken, we prefer boneless, skinless breasts. I don't think I have a preference for a certain style of food, or ethnicity. I cook mainly simple, meat and rice/pasta/potatoes kinds of meals. I enjoy trying different flavors and fixing new recipes. We enjoy italian, southern, mexican, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
It's sort of a tradition in our house to have biscuits and gravy every weekend, usually Saturday morning. My husband grew up in the South, and it's comfort food! I love preparing a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner: Roast turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, and cranberry jelly... MMMMM!!!!
My cooking triumphs
I think I was pretty thrilled with myself the first time I successfully made a home-made pizza crust. I am also very good with homemade breads, and very proud of my banana and lemon poppy seed breads!
My cooking tragedies
I have two classic cooking tragedies from when I had just started cooking (age 16) - the first time was when I tried to thicken gravy by adding flour directly into the HOT liquid - LOTS of clumps... it was SOO gross! The 2nd time was when I tried to make my first white sauce, and I just could NOT get the flour to milk ratio right, it was pasty and disgusting!!! I've learned a lot since then, but those are classic OOPS memories!
