For my complete blog post with step by step photos, visit me here!   I needed a good hearty bread to go along with beef stew a few days ago and had thought I'd make an Irish Brown Soda Bread, but when I went to bake I realized I only had about 1 cup of whole wheat flour and… MORE

For complete blog post with step by step photos, visit me here!   I LOVE Cuban sandwiches; they are my favorite to order at The Derby (Atlanta) and Bahama Breeze (Kennesaw) - pretty much the only thing I get at those two places. They are such a yummy mix with the mustard,… MORE

To see step by step photos, visit my blog here!   There's nothing quite like a homemade muffin fresh from the oven to start your day with! I had saved the Blueberry Streusel Muffins recipe from allrecipes.com awhile back and had about 1/2 a large carton of blueberries to use up MORE

For complete post with step by step pictures, visit me at my blog here!   I decided on a quick weeknight pizza and thought sausage and veggie would go over well with the boys. I didn't want to make a big pizza, so I halved my normal "go to" crust recipe for week night pizza (si MORE

We served this with some homemade bread and enjoyed a hearty, warm dish of stew. It was delicious! I've never used sweet potatoes in a stew before, and they were a little softer than I expected, but a nice change from a traditional white potato. I really enjoyed this and would definitely make… MORE

I was surprised how much we actually stuck to last week's meal plan - it rarely works out the way I try to "plan" things around here! I just have to roll with it as things come up! But this time we had pretty much everything and on the day we'd originally planned to have it. For the… MORE

I have been making a baked Parmesan chicken dish for years now, but decided to try one from allrecipes.com that was a little different (I have 10 bazillion recipes saved from them, I figured it would be nice to maybe try a new one out once a week or so!) So I tried Simply Parmesan… MORE

Hubby had been having a craving for Moe's the other day - he wanted a big, yummy, stuffed steak burrito! I had to admit that sounded pretty good but wanted to see how close I might be able to come at home. I searched around on the internet for some ideas on what they use in their… MORE

About Me
I love preparing meals for my family, I grew up eating home cooked dinners as a child, and felt that time around the table was very special. It gives me a LOT of pleasure to prepare something my family enjoys!
My favorite things to cook
I cook with a lot of chicken, we prefer boneless, skinless breasts. I don't think I have a preference for a certain style of food, or ethnicity. I cook mainly simple, meat and rice/pasta/potatoes kinds of meals. I enjoy trying different flavors and fixing new recipes. We enjoy italian, southern, mexican, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
It's sort of a tradition in our house to have biscuits and gravy every weekend, usually Saturday morning. My husband grew up in the South, and it's comfort food! I love preparing a Traditional Thanksgiving Dinner: Roast turkey, green bean casserole, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, and cranberry jelly... MMMMM!!!!
My cooking triumphs
I think I was pretty thrilled with myself the first time I successfully made a home-made pizza crust. I am also very good with homemade breads, and very proud of my banana and lemon poppy seed breads!
My cooking tragedies
I have two classic cooking tragedies from when I had just started cooking (age 16) - the first time was when I tried to thicken gravy by adding flour directly into the HOT liquid - LOTS of clumps... it was SOO gross! The 2nd time was when I tried to make my first white sauce, and I just could NOT get the flour to milk ratio right, it was pasty and disgusting!!! I've learned a lot since then, but those are classic OOPS memories!
