I started cooking and baking when I was ten years old and have loved it ever since. I even did it professionally for a few years before my son was born. For the last three years I've been cooking for a semi-annual weekend woman's retreat. It's a ton of work but I love it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom (when she was healthier), my sister and I try to get together every year to bake hundreds of Christmas cookies (nine different family recipes). Lots of hard work, great memories and tons of yummy cookies for our whole family.
My cooking triumphs
At a large Oktoberfest party we attended my husband overheard some guests doubt the stout infused chocolate cake I brought was homemade because it looked too perfect. Does it get any better???
My cooking tragedies
I was getting ready for my girlfriends to come over for dinner and I went to invert the heavenly smelling chocolate mint bundt cake I had baked from scratch when my hand slipped and it shattered on the kitchen floor. PAINFULL!!!

Lacy Oatmeal Cookies
These cookie are gorgeous! Very sweet, almost like a candy cookie, but oh so delicious. If you're looking for a traditional oatmeal cookie, this is not it. Think of these as a rich, high class cousin. A few tips: (1) Use a silicone baking mat. If you don't own one, get one. If you can, get two. They're worth every penny. I tried using parchment and they stuck to the stuff. (2) If you use a very thin (preferably metal) spatula, you'll be able to transfer these cookies to a cooling rack only a couple of minutes after they come out of the oven without damaging their perfect edges. (3) Use quick oats. The resulting cookie will be oh so lacy and beautiful. (People will ask what kind of cookie they are because they don't look anything like oatmeal cookies.)

Jamie's Cranberry Spinach Salad
I've made this recipe a couple of times now and for a salad on the sweet side, it's perfection. If you're looking for just the right balance of sweet, salty, sour, crunchy, chewy, tender and smooth, look no further. I like to make the dressing a day ahead just to give the flavors time to meld.

Best Lemonade Ever
Crazy good, crazy simple. Not too tart and not too sweet. You can cut down on the wait time by chilling the pan of simple syrup in an ice bath.
