After two careers, one in the music business and one in newspaper, I semi-retired to a great little town called Gimli, Manitoba.
Gimli was originally an Icelandic settlement and is one of the largest fresh water, comercial fisheries in Canada. We are famouse for our pickerel.
I have three grown daughters and a few years ago my youngest grandson came to live with us. So now I'm raising a teenager! Life is fun.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking bread and making simple, fresh ingredient meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Plum pudding at Christmas. Yorkshire pudding with roast beef and scones with currents.
My cooking triumphs
My husband is Jewish and I learned to make challah, blintzes and chicken soup. We celebrate everything!
My cooking tragedies
When I decided to make increadably creamy potatoes for a big dinner. I put them in my new blender. Who knew? I ended up with potato soup. My guests were amused and some ate the potatoes out of bowls with spoons.
I also made banana bread and forgot the sugar. One of our friends saw the loaves cooling on top of the stove and said, "I love your meatloaf. Can I take one home?".
