About this Cook
I grew up as a child of a single parent who worked. As soon as I was able, I was in the kitchen trying to make different things! Now a'days, I'm always looking for new recipes to get my family to get out of their comfort food zone.
My favorite things to cook
Anything on the grill (we actually grill all year - even in the snow) and I LOVE making and decorating cupcakes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. For me that means that I will be surrounded by family that I do not get to see as often. I usually prepare everything from appetizers to dessert. My mom still makes her traditional stuffing.
My cooking triumphs
Hands down, pit beef made just right (medium rare, of course) and a meatloaf that DH swears by.
My cooking tragedies
Awww, this is so sad. When I was about 12 I decided to make my mom a special 2-layer cake. I put two cake mixes together and divided them up in two pans (can you see where this is going?) ... Needless to say, they overflowed the pan and when I tried to take the cakes out, they cracked down the middle. I called my mom crying over the whole thing.

Bacon Wrapped Brown Sugar Smokies Dipping Sauce
OMG ... This was fantastic exactly as written. Served it with the bacon wrapped smokies and traditional pigs in a blanket. Everyone loved it, inhaled it, and licked the plates clean!!

Brown Sugar Smokies
These were surprisingly yummy!! I tried a different recipe that used butter & brown sugar & didn't care for it. These were perfect. I used center cut thin bacon & liberally coated the bacon wrapped smokies with the brown sugar and let them sit overnight. It takes a while in the oven to get the bacon crisp, I've broiled them on low for the last few minutes to finish them up. Definitely serve with the "bacon wrapped brown sugar smokies dipping sauce" from this site! Oh, one last thing .... Use the smokies, not the beef cocktail franks, it makes the difference.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings
Okay, admittedly, I am not a fan of chicken and dumplings, but the rest of my family is. I caved into their pressure and thought this was an easy one to make. I ended up really enjoying this! I did make a few changes ... First, I used chicken breast tenderloins cut into pieces. I used 3 cans cream of chicken soup, used reduced sodium chicken stock in place of water. I added diced potatoes and carrots, as well. The thing that sealed the deal for me was to use 1 can of buttermilk grands biscuits instead of 2 cans. I rolled the dough on a floured surface and cut into squares. The flour helped thicken the dish. I cooked for about 2 hours after adding the dumplings which allowed them to absorb the taste better! I think next time I might add a bit of half & half to make the stew a bit richer.
