My favorite things to cook
When I was living with my parents, my mom always made Chinese food for dinner so when it was my turn to cook, I would always make something non-Chinese so we'd have some variety. Since moving out, I really started missing my mom's cooking! So I've started making traditional Chinese dishes such as Steamed Pork Spareribs with Black Bean Sauce, Soy Sauce Chicken Wings, and Braised Fuzzy Melon with Dried Scallops. It's fun because I'm learning to use to many new ingredients. And I kinda like being able to call mom more often to pick her brain about the dishes she made, that I took for granted.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year my extended family holds a Top Chef competition during Christmas. Because our family is so humungous, we make it a potluck so no one is responsible for making a meal to feed 30! At the end of the meal, everyone votes for the best dish. I'm proud to admit that I've won 4 times in a row and have since retired as champion so all the little people have a chance to win too. HA!
