Slow-Cooked Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2008
I wanted to make this recipe late in the day and decided to cook it on the stove instead of in the crockpot. It turned out great! Very tasty and flavorful. I followed others' suggestions of adding more potatoes, and I used seasoning blend instead of chopped onions. The extra potatoes may also have solved the problem others had of it being too thin.

All-Day Apple Butter

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2008
Such an easy recipe. I put my apples in the crockpot at 9:00 at night and cooked them on high 1 hour. I turned the setting to low and went to bed at 10:00. I woke up the next morning to find them all done. I removed the lid and cooked them on high for 2 hours to thicken them up a bit. Wonderful!

Pot O' Gold Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2008
This is just an average potato soup. It interested me because I had all the ingredients in my pantry. I did not find it to be too salty or too thick as another reviewer did. This soup is very smooth. I would like chunks of potato in it and will probably add some potatoes or hashbrown cubes next time.

Nothing special. Not a substitution for chili made with ground beef.

Apple Butter Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This pie was delicious. I used 3/4 cup apple butter as others suggested. The pie was a little runny, so next time I will add another tablespoon of flour. I also used an 8" pie plate and will use a 9" next time. I cooked the pie an extra 15 minutes.

Herbed Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2008
I did not like the overwhelming taste of thyme and rosemary in this soup. I am still looking for a really good potato soup.

Quick and Easy Ham with Sweet Potatoes

Husband thought it was just average; however, it's a keeper because it's easy to put together for a quick, good supper.

Savory Crescent Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
Very good. Used a 10 oz. can of chicken, and omitted the milk because it seemed "thin" enough.

Pork Brine

Very good. Like others, I decreased the salt to 1/4 cup. I marinated a pork tenderloin, and it turned out very tender and flavorful.

Amazing Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2008
I have never eaten butternut squash before, so this was my first time to cook it. I followed the recipe but doubled the topping as other reviewers suggested. I liked the squash but did not like the topping. The parmesan cheese overpowered the taste of the squash. I may make this again but without the topping.

Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2008
This is the first time I have had acorn squash. It is wonderful! I baked both halves flesh side up, filled with butter and brown sugar, and covered it with foil for 1 hour. ***In an effort to cut calories, I now use 1 T. Brummel and Brown and 1 T. Splenda Brown Sugar. 1 1/2 PointsPlus

Very good and creamy, but waaay too much sauce for the amount of slaw.

Maria's Rice

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
Wonderful! Made according to recipe except cooked under lid entire time. ***I made this at a later time and substituted chicken broth for the beef broth. It was still good, just not as rich and flavorful. ***Made another time and browned pork chops first, then added to the rice dish, and baked app. 50 minutes under foil. I totally omitted the butter. Really good!

Baked Beef Stew

This is fabulous! I used 2 cans of beef broth and 4 T. cornstarch instead of water, beef granules, and tapioca. I also decreased the salt to 1 tsp. and omitted the bread. The flavor was wonderful! My husband loves it.

Parmesan Potato Wedges

Reviewed: May 28, 2009
These need to be salted before cooking. I followed instructions and cooked in microwave for 6 minutes. Then I put them in a 350 degree oven for 22 minutes to crisp them.

Lighter Fettuccini Alfredo

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2009
Very good! No need to salt noodles. Thickens as it cools. May need to thin it a bit with milk for next meal. Ate it as a meatless entree and served it with crusty garlic bread.
