Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

I become very nostalgic when I think of Snickerdoodles. It was the cookie my grandmother always made when I would spend two weeks with her during my summer vacation from school. While these don't quite measure up (would any recipe unless she made them?), they are awfully good.

Classic Goulash

Good comfort food for a cold winter night! Definitely too much salt for our tastes. I cut recipe in half and used only 1 tsp seasoned salt. Next time, I'd like to use regular salt and a little less than this time. I added green pepper and liked it.

I made these exactly by the recipe, browning them first. They seemed a little tough to me. I've made porcupine balls where you don't brown them first, and I think I like those better. I might try these again omitting that step.

Hot Pepper Cheese Ball

A good cheese ball, and certainly not hot and spicy. Even children can eat it. My family doesn't care for pecans on a cheese ball, so I omitted them.

Thanksgiving Leftovers Casserole

I really expected to like this casserole better than I did, but it just didn't do anything for me. Perhaps it was the Stove Top Stuffing. I'm a Southern girl, and boxed stuffing just isn't my thing.

Progresso® Baked Ziti Casserole

I made so many changes to this recipe that it's hard to rate it. However, what I did to it made it really good. I used penne (instead of ziti), ground beef (instead of sausage), 1 T. dried basil (instead of fresh), cottage cheese (instead of ricotta), and I added Italian seasoning plus 1/2 a jar of Herdez Guajillo Cooking Sauce. I also added salt. This turned out delicious.

Whole Wheat Pizza Dough

I used white whole wheat flour along with the all-purpose flour in this pizza dough and really liked the end result, a chewy texture. I let my Kitchenaid mixer do the work for me, so this was a really easy dough to mix up.

BBQ Chicken Pizza II

I love BBQ chicken pizza! This recipe makes it so easy to substitute what you have. I used yellow bell peppers (instead of red and green), yellow onion (instead of red), and a combination of cheddar and pepper jack cheeses (instead of Monterey Jack).

Easy Baked Pumpkin Pudding

This is a very easy dessert to put together, and it actually tastes good. It ends up tasting like a crispy cinnamon toast topping over pumpkin pie. The problem is the appearance of this dessert. I had to cover the top with aluminum foil toward the end of the bake time to keep it from burning. The topping has a lot of cinnamon in it, so it is very dark, almost black, which detracts from the presentation.

Slow Cooker Barbeque Chicken

This recipe would be fine for a quick and easy slow cooker meal. Certainly a huge help for a busy day. However, it really wouldn't be much different than just pouring on Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce. I couldn't even detect a hint of the red pepper flakes, and Ray doesn't really need any extra sugar since it's quite sweet to begin with.

Kentucky Garlic Cheese Grits

As a Southern girl, I do love me some garlic cheese grits, just not this much garlic. Perfect otherwise. Of course, using less garlic powder or substituting real garlic is easy enough to do. I also do not like grits cooked as firm as cornbread. I checked them at 30 minutes and then cooked them just barely past the jiggly stage.

Pumpkin Almond Mini Muffins

Loved these muffins for breakfast this fall morning! I had only whole almonds so I chopped them up to put on top. I also omitted the sprinkling of powdered sugar at the end. Delicious way to start my day.
