Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
these are honestly the best scones I've ever tasted! Rich and buttery (much like a fluffy shortbread), add whatever flavors you like (I added dried cranberries and orange peel). So versatile and easy!

Best Granola

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
As many others have found this is best baked at 225 degrees for 1 hour 30-45 minutes, switching racks every 30 minutes or so. I also omit the brown sugar (honey is plenty of sweetness for me!) and coconut, and add walnuts and pecans only. After removing from the oven I add whatever fruit I want (raisins, cranberries, dates, cherries, etc) as I've found adding them before baking makes the fruit dry and rock hard. Great basic recipe to add your own person touches too!

Mom's Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 30, 2011
Too much cinnamon for my taste, and I cut back on the sugar (added only 2 c.) which was plenty. I'll definitely make again using about 1/2 the cinnamon. A winner, thanks for posting!

Sourdough Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2011
I did have to add quite a bit more water, but once the dough attained the right consistency (depends on the hydration of your starter- mine is thick) this bread came out PERFECT! Nice texture, neither too dense or light, and a flavor to die for. I did have to bake in the oven (350 for 35 min) as the whole wheat setting on my bread machine decided not to work, so I selected dough cycle, then removed and punched down slightly. Added to bread pan and let rise until doubled. YUM!

Crispy and Creamy Doughnuts

Reviewed: Aug. 17, 2011
I made these because my husband loves Krispy Kreme doughnut, and though I would kill for doughnut overall (can you say carb junkie??), I've never cared for the aftertaste that they leave me. My husband had no idea what these were called, or anything about the recipe except that I'd made them, took one bite and said 'these taste like Krispy Kreme', so they were obviously a hit with him! What I didn't expect though, was that the taste was actually BETTER, in that they were fresher having just been made, and NO nasty aftertaste! This recipe makes a LOT of donuts. My new fav, thank you! *The dough is very fragile upon final rise when you try to pick it up and place in oil. I found the doughnut 'holes' much easier in that they require less handling and are easier to place. I'm going to try twists next time...might hold together better than the traditional doughnut shape.
