About this Cook
I am a 20-something Registered Nurse. I have a wonderful husband and 2 adorable furbabies that are my world. I have loved cooking and baking for as long as I can remember. I enjoy making anything and everything as long as I can find the ingredients which is not always easy in my area. I'm very much a perfectionist and love a challenge in the kitchen. I've started a blog (ohsomartha.blogspot.com) and I'd love for you to check it out.
My favorite things to cook
Anything & everything. I especially love baking, though. I recently got a bread machine and I've been having fun trying new recipes almost every day.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making the biggest ice cream sundaes we could on New Years Eve and eating them when the ball dropped.
My cooking triumphs
I very rarely follow a recipe completely so it was a great moment when I realized that almost all of my versions of recipes turn out the way I want them to. It made me feel like a "real" cook.

Cheesecake Brownies
I rarely make anything that isn't from scratch, but I sure am happy that I went out on a limb and made these! I followed the recipe exactly and when they came out of the oven I topped them with a little bit of blueberry pie filling. Yum!

Nova Scotia Blueberry Cream Cake
I, like many others, mixed my berries in with the sour cream mixture. After 70 minutes at 375 it was VERY jiggly. After about 30 minutes it the fridge it was still warm, but mostly set. I topped each piece with a large dollop of freshly whipped cream. It was good. My husband thought it was excellent.

J.P.'s Big Daddy Biscuits
Since I found this a couple years ago, it has become the only biscuit recipe I use. I have made it many, many times exactly as written as well as my own variations. The only thing I always do is use butter instead of shortening. Today, I increased the butter to 1/2 cup and decreased the milk to 3/4 cup and used the other measurements as written in the original recipe. They were definitely the best. I will always make them this way from now on.
