Boilermaker Tailgate Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
This recipe has a fantastic flavor. It is just right. Both my husband and I loved it. I made this for New Year's Day and like a previous reviewer, prepared only 5 servings, but had a lot left over, and we ate several meals on it. I substituted ground turkey breast for the ground beef and it tasted great. My husband did not even know I made the substitution. I did not add all tasbasco sauce as I felt it was spicy enough as it was, and I like fairly spicy food. This will be my chili recipe going forward.

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
My sister recommended I try this recipe and I'm glad she did. It has a wonderful flavor, and it is easy. It is a great and easy soup/stew for cold days. UPDATE: I have now made this several times and it is great every time. I use Bill Echols Taco Seasoning I recipe from this site instead of the packaged seasoning or sometimes I use a can of enchilada sauce instead of the tomato sauce and seasonings.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out great. It was moist with just the right amount of sweetness. Not too sweet. I will make it again.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
This is one of our family favorites. We love balsamic vinegar so we love this one. It is one of my go-to weeknight recipes when I don't know what to make. It is delicious, healthy, and so quick and easy to make. I usually use canned Italian Style diced tomatoes and skip the other seasoning when I am in a hurry. Also I use garlic powder instead of garlic salt to reduce the salt. Thanks for this recipe.

California Chicken Spaghetti

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2009
This is a great flavorful recipe. My husband and I both love it. I have made it several times now. I use fresh basil and a salt-free homemade cajun seasoning from Scotdog from this site. I used olive oil cooking spray instead of the olive oil. I sprinkled the cajun seasoning on the chicken and cooked the chicken in the skillet. Once cooked I removed the chicken and deglazed the pan with a little white wine and added the garlic and tomatoes. The feta cheese makes this dish. It is delicous with the cajun seasoning and the tomatoes and basil. Thanks for a great recipe.

Mom's Turkey Sausage Patties

Reviewed: Jan. 31, 2010
Great recipe! I used 1-1/4 lb extra lean ground turkey breast and kept the same seasonings, except reduced the salt in half. It tasted fantastic! I have used it as breakfast sausage in the morning as well as in a lasagne recipe that my husband loved. UPDATE: I have made this several times now and love the taste and how easy it is to fix. I have used it in breakfast casseroles and in any recipe that uses sausage. It works great.

Super Simple Oven Barbequed Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2011
This was excellent. I will definitely make it again. The only changes I made was to sprinkle on a little paprika in addition to the other spices. I also baked it for just over an hour for 3 large chicken breasts and it came out perfectly. It was so moist, tender, and flavorful I didn't think any other BBQ sauce was necessary.

Spicy Pork Chops

Reviewed: May 14, 2011
Whew! That's one spicy tomato sauce!! And I only used 1 TSP of crushed red pepper and no hot sauce since I was out. My husband and I love spicy foods but I'm glad I reduced the red pepper. Otherwise, it was very good. I made a few substitutions to use what I had on hand but no drastic changes. I used olive oil instead of vegetable oil and tomato sauce instead of tomato puree, and I used thin pork chops instead of thick pork chops. Overall, the dish had a great flavor but would be very spicy as written. However, it is an easy, spicy, healthy, quick one-dish meal that is only 4 weight watchers points. Next time I will cut back on the crushed red pepper and it will be a 5-star recipe!

Onion Soup Mix

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
This is so easy and delicious. Tastes just like the soup mix but without all the salt. I used no sodium beef bouillon and left out the salt. It tasted great.

Modenese Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
My husband and I thought this was delicious. I used a little olive oil instead of butter. I did not have any wine, so I used about 1/2 cup chicken broth with a little red wine vinegar. Also, I left out the salt as it was not needed since I used the chicken broth.

Because of these muffins my husband actually ate breakfast because he normally skips it. However, he liked these muffins. They had a good flavor and I would make them again.

Spicy Indian (Gujarati) Green Beans

Reviewed: Jul. 26, 2011
My husband and I really liked these. They had a good flavor and were a little spicy. I used maybe 2 TBL olive oil and 1 tsp horseradish instead of the black mustard seed as per other reviews. I forgot the sugar and didn't miss it. The green beans had a great flavor without it.

Grilled Chicken with Rosemary and Bacon

Reviewed: Jul. 28, 2011
This recipe was good. I liked the chicken with the rosemary and bacon flavors together and it was very easy to make. The bacon was definitely the stronger flavor. However, my husband and I prefer a little bolder, spicier flavors than this. Next time we might add some cayenne or wrap a jalapeno with the rosemary.

Chinese Chicken Salad III

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2011
Love this salad. It has great flavor and crunch. After reading reviews, I used only 1 TBL peanut butter in the dressing and added, instead of napa cabbage, about 1 cup of dry broccoli slaw mix which includes shredded carrots, red cabbage, and broccoli. That added great crunch, color, and nutrition. I baked the wontons and they added a great crunch. I agree with other reviewers that 16 wrappers would have been way too much. I used one and that was enough. I did not have any mandarin oranges. However, it was excellent without them. Thank you for a delicious salad.

Holiday Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2011
Based on previous reviews stating it was somewhat bland I made a couple of substitutions to spice it up. Instead of plain mayonnaise I used the spicy sweet mayo from my Kickin Turkey Burger recipe on this site. In addition I added a little pineapple for additional sweetness. The result was delicious.

Half Time Hoisin Chicken Wings

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
This is my recipe. For the sauce I recommend mixing the hoisin, teriyaki, ginger and garlic together first. Then add the sugar a little at a time and taste it until it reaches your desired level of sweetness. Do the same with the garlic chili sauce. Start with a small amount and then increase it in small increments until you get your desired level of spiciness. If you don't have garlic chili sauce, use any hot sauce you have or cayenne or crushed red pepper. Use any spice or sauce that adds heat. Also, if you select chicken pieces other than wings, the cooking time may need to be adjusted.

Mediterranean Grilled Pork Chops

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2011
My husband and I both liked this pork and the spice combination. I left out the salt and sugar but it was delicious without them. I marinated them for about 3 hours. Since our grill died, I sauteed the boneless pork loin chops for a couple of minutes on each side to brown and then put them in a baking dish with a little chicken broth and baked them at 350 for about 30 minutes. I would make this again. Thank you Stormy3600 for sharing the recipe.
