I'm a mom, an aspiring photographer and a nurse. Since my mom was a nurse too, I had to learn how to cook or Dad and I were going to starve back then! Mom's favorite dish was what my Dad called "Beef Crispies". Most people would call them hamburgers! ;o) Bless her heart! So that's about when I started cooking...when I was 12.
My favorite things to cook
ANY kind of HOLIDAY FOOD! I love the holidays and I believe the best memories come from the kitchen. It's important to me to instill tradition and wonderful memories in my kids so they can pass them on too. Oh yeah, when the STEELERS play, I love to cook Game Day foods! GO STEELERS!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We all have a part in the Christmas cookies and fudge. I love that time of year. The boys believe their part is testing. My daughter and I are the creators. She's 12 now and the baby, so she feels she needs to learn to cook soon in the event I start making "beef crispies"!
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumphs repeat themselves yearly---from Thanksgiving through New Year's and Easter! If we only had to eat those days, life would be great! :)
My cooking tragedies
We were in our new home, having dinner with friends from Charlotte. I cooked Prime Rib for the first time and it was wonderful. I had a pasta side dish and had the cooked pasta draining in the colander over the pot it was cooked in. RULE #1: SHUT THE HEAT OFF PRIOR TO PUTTING COLANDER BACK OVER POT!! Needless to say, I had a melted mess of pasta and plastic! I've never done it again! ;o)
