Cake Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2012
This recipe is good start... but I have a coupla tips. Definitely chill the balls, makes it way easier, especially if you are making cake pops. Also, I used *half* the recommended frosting, I would have had mush otherwise. Yes, they are supersweet, but a huge hit with school-age kids, especially with crushed peppermint on top for the holidays.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 19, 2012
Great! A truly no-fail sugar cookie recipe. Didn't change a thing and I got a great-tasting, not-too-sweet foundation for a frosting and sprinkle explosion. Lost the argument with my boys about cookies being pretty versus covered with "sugar." Next year I will save a few back, just for me.

Beef and Irish Stout Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2012
Just what you expect: hearty and flavorful. Since I made this for the fam, I added a half cup of honey to cut the bitter/tang of the Guinness a little and it worked great. With sourdough toast, it was a perfect fall meal.

Clam Linguine

Classic seafood pasta. Loved it, but skipped the tomatoes because of picky eaters in my house.

Fruity Fun Skewers

Reviewed: Jun. 21, 2012
So simple, but not to be overlooked. I made these on fancy toothpicks for my first grader's end of year celebration. The kids couldn't get enough! I used strawberries, cantaloupe, grapes, pineapple, and watermelon. I put a mini marshmallow on each and mint leaves on some strawberry-only ones.

Creamy Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
I followed this recipe exactly to a T. I didn't do a water bath. I didn't leave it in the oven. It didn't crack or fall -- I was so pleased. I topped it with a simple combo of sliced stawberries and sugar, and then added whipped cream on top. Now, I am headed to the gym ...

Jicama Appetizer

Simple, easy, refreshing. A great thing to put out there with the guac, salsa, and chips. I used bottled lime juice (shhhhh), but people thought it was great.

Watermelon Fire and Ice Salsa

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2011
Made this for a gathering this weekend. Guests loved it and it had just the right amount of heat. I didn't use cilantro because the husband is not a fan, but I felt it was definitely missing something without it. Also, I used chopped garlic and salt instead of garlic salt. Will make again for sure.

D's Mulled Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
I used this recipe to make mulled cider for the teachers at school. I found the proportions just right -- not too spicy but definitely flavorful -- and got huge compliments. I also used some leftover zest and spices and cheesecloth to make little "take home" mulling balls. Thanks D!
