About this Cook
Have been a widow for 4 years and am having a difficult cooking for one. Right now my 10 year old granddaughter and her Mom are living with me, and I am so enjoying cooking for us, our dinners are full of good food and laughter.
My favorite things to cook
I probably have about 175 +/- cook books and love to read them, even if I don't make it all. I read them over and over. I have notes in them all as to what I did a little differently, when I made it and what my husband and kids liked or didn't like. We never counted Eric's opinion because he hated everything in a sauce, any vegetable, only liked iceberg lettuce with just Thousand Island dressing and still does. I laugh now that I see these notes especially when I see "ERIC LIKED " in my notes. There are not many believe me. With 4 kids and often a friend for each of them, dinner times were filled with laughter!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Making my grandmother's Lemon Meringue Pie but making a much higher meringue, my daughter's favorite And my grand mother's apple pie, That I taught my granddaughter to make when she turned 13. I am so enjoying the all-recipes site and we run for the camera to take a picture of our dinner, it doesn't take much to give us a thrill!!!
My cooking triumphs
We had a cocktail party several years ago for about 80 people. I cooked and baked for more than a week every single appetizer, hot and cold dips, finger foods, etc. My triumph was that I overheard a few women debating as to whether I had the party catered or not. :)
My cooking tragedies
When microwaves first came out in the late 60's, we bought a Radar Range from Sears, I cooked the pork roast as directed and then used a meat thermometer, did that several times until I couldn't reinsert the thermometer any more and then realized the thermometer was broken, The roast looked perfect, but it had solidified and actually crumbled when my husband tried to carve it. We laughed until we cried and then ate something like eggs for dinner.

Maple Salmon
Wished I had made more! I wish I had had some real maple syrup,so I used just used the regular maple syrup and it was still great. I did use the rest of the marinade, to cook down into a glaze.It was perfect!

Lemony Quinoa
This was the first time that we cooked Quinoa, the kernels were kingdom of stuck together. The flavor was great, but think maybe we did something wrong. We did rinse it very well before starting the recipe.
