Tilapia Pitas

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2009
Exceptionally good. In fact, one of the best recipes I've ever tried from this site (and I've tried many!). Even my 12-year-old son wolfed one down and asked for another. The combination of flavours -- the zing of the cayenne, the sweetness of the dressing, the saltiness of the feta -- is scrumptious. Wow -- this one's a keeper!

Dark Chocolate Cake II

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2004
Perfect! Easy, moist, husband and son approved. Delicious on its own or with chocolate icing. Now if I could just restrain myself from sneaking bites of cake--it's disappearing fast!

Broccoli and Tortellini Salad

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2004
This salad is a meal in itself. Loved it. I only used a 1/4 cup of sugar and 2 heads of broccoli and I threw in 2 cups of trail mix instead of just the raisins and sunflower seeds. Next time I will add more bacon and cut back a wee bit on the red onion, which was a bit strong. Very good.

Chocolate Chip Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2004
OMYGOSH...this is definitely the best cheesecake I've ever made. Thick and creamy and just the right flavour--not too sweet, but delectable. I used an 8-inch springform pan, which made it a bit thicker, so after an hour of baking I turned down the heat to 200 and let it bake for another 30 minutes. This cake definitely reaches its peak quality after it's been refrigerated overnight. Everyone enjoyed it and I will make it again for sure.

Vegetable Chowder

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2004
This recipe made a lovely, thick, heart-warming soup. I doubled the recipe, so cutting up all the veggies was labour intensive, but it was worth the effort. Even my 7-year-old son, who doesn't care for vegetables, ate a whole bowl of it and said it was good. My husband loved it and asked me to make it again. One note: even with a doubled recipe I only used 2 cups of grated cheese and it was yummy. I noticed that a lot of the recipes on this site have a very high fat or sugar content and quite often I cut down on the fat or sugar. In this case, I think 3 cups of cheese for 6-8 servings would have been too much. I think next time I will also use a bit less flour because it had a very thick consistency. Thanks for a great recipe!

Cranberry Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2004
This is exactly the same recipe that I've been using each year as my Boxing Day cake. It turns out perfect every time, has a lovely presentation, and it's a wonderful, light alternative to fruit cake.

Grandma's Slow Cooker Vegetarian Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2002
A good, hearty, beany stew, full of fibre and protein, and very satisfying. My husband is a vegetarian so I'm always interested in trying new vegetarian recipes. Meat lovers might prefer the conventional ground beef taste of a regular chili, but this one was just fine for us.

Slow Cooker Lentils and Sausage

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2002
This was a delicious, satisfying stew, perfect for a fall or winter evening or perhaps for a Boxing Day lunch. The recipe didn't specify red or green lentils. I made it with red lentils, and it was perfect. Even my five-year-old son ate it, and that says a lot. Very quick and easy to make. My crock pot is my new best friend!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2002
My husband is a vegetarian, so I rarely cook beef. My parents were visiting from far away, and I wanted to serve them a good old-fashioned meat and potatoes meal. This roast was fabulous! I loved being able to put it on in the morning and let it cook slowly all day. What a nice aroma. I served it with creamy mashed potatoes, string beans, and baked pineapple (recipe on this site). It was one of the best meals I ever made. I will definitely make this again.

These are very good scones. My mother, a veteran baker, was visiting recently, and she was impressed that my scones were better than hers!

Honey Wheat Bread I

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2002
Very nice bread. It's light and moist and easy to make. I have to leave my loaves in the oven a bit longer than recommended to ensure that the middle isn't doughy. Delicious!

Basic Curry Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2002
I've been looking for a good curry sauce. This one was okay, but it was labour intensive and it seemed to be missing something. Not quite the authentic Indian taste I was hoping for. We enjoyed the meal, though, and I will probably make it again.
