I hope everyone had a GREAT 4th of July weekend.  Mine was exhausting, but so worth it.  So my husband and I took off Friday after work and headed to So. Cal.  We did about 300 miles that night, and ended up in Tehachapi where we stayed the night.  The next morning we were up pretty early, ate MORE

Me and the fur babies
About this Cook
My life is pretty simple, and boring. I love my dogs, cooking, riding my motorcycle any chance I get...usually to eat. We also have an RV, and I love to pack-up my fur babies and travel all over the country. I must be part gypsy, because I love to be out on the road. I live near the California wine country, so I also enjoy wine tasting...and of course all the great food the Napa Valley has to offer. I have a pretty thankless job that I hope to retire from in about 3 years, at which time I plan to leave California and never turn back. I think I need to be somewhere with good Southern cookin...Tennessee is looking good to me. I'm just counting the days.
My favorite things to cook
I don't really think I have a favorite...I just like to cook. I enjoy trying new things, haven't found anything yet that I wouldn't ever want to do again.
My cooking triumphs
I usually try to keep it simple, but I just mastered the Apple Pie, so I'm happy about that.
My cooking tragedies
I have yet to make the perfect artichoke...but I just found a great recipe for a garlic grilled one, so I hope to change that soon...

Pork Chops Stuffed with Smoked Gouda and Bacon
Absolutely fantastic. I couldn't believe that I wasn't at a 5 star restaurant while eating these. I would serve these to guests, or a date that you are trying to impress. :-) I didn't change a thing. I did make a white gravy with the bacon drippings. I made it with a little milk, apple juice and chicken stock. I added dried basil, dried parsley, minced dried onion, salt, pepper and some diced green apple. It was delish, but the pork was great all by it's self.

Bodacious Broccoli Salad
Absolutely fabulous! My mouth is watering just thinking about it. I made this as written, and it was perfect. Everyone loved it, and there were no leftovers for me...so I guess I'll have to make some more!

Sweet and Tart Strawberry Salad
A very simple salad. I have been eating this for years, but use Splenda in place of the brown sugar. A great way to get a yummy fruit serving in your day.
