About this Cook
I am married to the most wonderful man, Don Hansen, Jr. We just celebrated 30 yrs together last Aug. I work from home doing alterations on wedding gowns and other types of formals. I love any type of crafts, gardening, and especially cooking. I love to get together with friends, so I'm always looking for great recipes to share with them.
My favorite things to cook
I think my favorite thing to do is baking, fresh breads and cakes. I also enjoy Italian cooking.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad taught my mom how to cook spaghetti sauce. In turn, she taught me and my sister. We took the recipe tweaked and perfected it to what it is today. Maybe one day we will share it here on
My cooking triumphs
In 2009 I carved a watermelon for a graduation party with 2009 as a cutout on the top of it. We served the fruit salad out of the double 0's in the middle of the cutout. I was really cool.
My cooking tragedies
The only one I remember was when I had my in-laws over for dinner for the very first time. We sat down at the table to eat and my husband's mom asked me to pass the mashed potatoes. That would have been okay if we actually had mashed potatoes on the table. After dinner that night she volunteered to teach me how to cook rice.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw
The taste of this was exceptional. I did find that for my BBQ sandwich I needed to add a little more cabbage and a little less of the dressing. I did not want my sandwich to get that wet. As a side dish it is perfect. This will be my recipe for coleslaw from this point forward.

Best Steak Marinade in Existence
This was an awesome marinade. I did substitute black pepper for white only because that's what I had on hand. My dad always puts A-1 steak sauce on his steak. Had the bottle sitting right by his plate and he never touched it. He said the steak was perfect without it. I would have to agree. We used Delmonico steaks, marinated 4 hours and then put them on the grill. They were so tender. Will definitely do this again this summer.
