Beef Au Jus

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
Perfect accompaniment to our prime rib and Yorkshire pudding! I did use a little more beef broth than called for but only because I had more people and I added a little extra beef drippings as well. No salt added either.

Christmas Wassail

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2013
Everyone loved it! I had a recipe that had been used in my family for 20 years or so; but I was looking for something different. I liked the allspice berries and the pineapple juice - something my old recipe did not have.

OREO Ultimate Turtle Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2013
Fantastic! I followed the directions exactly and it came out perfectly! I think the trick is to not over-beat the cheesecake filling and do not overbake.

Special Occasion Stuffed Crown Pork Roast

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
I made this for our annual holiday meal with friends. It was a huge hit - the stuffing was great! The pork took a little longer than stated, but it was also slightly over 7 lbs. so that only makes sense. This made not only a delicious meal but a beautiful presentation.

Apple Walnut Salad with Cranberry Vinaigrette

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2013
The salad was just salad, but the dressing is awesome! Everyone loved it. It was a little thick, so next time I'll thin it out a little, but I know this dressing will be on my table a lot!

Asparagus with Sliced Almonds and Parmesan Cheese

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2013
We loved this! It was quick and easy to prepare and had wonderful flavor. Went very nicely with grilled chicken and scalloped potatoes. There is nothing I would do differently, it's great just as is.

Gail's Seven Layer Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2013
Wonderful! Made it for a luncheon at work and everyone scarfed it down quickly! I put together the lettuce, cabbage & carrot part in a large bowl last night. Then I diced my tomato, chopped the green onion, and crushed the chips and put them in individual containers. I put the salad altogether about half hour before serving. I used light Ranch dressing. Everyone loved the avocado! I will be making this again. Thank you!

Zesty Apple Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2013
We had our first luncheon of the year at work today. I work at a school and we take turns (by departments) each month and sponsor a luncheon. I made this and doubled the recipe. Huge hit! Everyone liked it and there was enough left over for me to stop at my parents' house after work and share with them. I used lemon greek yogurt and everyone said they loved the dressing on this. Very nice salad with a Fall twist to it.

White Chili with Ground Turkey

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2013
My pot of this chili is done so I had to try it and review it before we eat it for dinner! Delicious! I added a less broth, as most reviewers suggested. The seasonings are great - even the cinnamon. I can't wait for dinner when we top this with more cheese and sour cream for hubby. I have a loaf of parmesan/cheddar beer bread that will go great with this. Perfect meal for a chilly Fall day!

Roasted Pumpkin Seeds

Reviewed: Oct. 19, 2013
I personally didn't love these, but I don't like pumpkin seeds. The kids and hubby loved them, though. They wanted to dig more seeds out of the trash from our pumpkin carving afternoon adventure, but I told them we had roasted plenty! I did salt them again when pulled out of the oven. Will do this again next year!

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies III

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2013
These are very good cookies! I did use half shortening and half butter, but that's because I always do in cookies; other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I have a brand new oven and I found that these cookies needed to bake for 11 minutes to be done. I made these for my niece, who is away at college and I know she's going to love them!

Best Fried Green Tomatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2013
I have nothing to compare these to as I've never even eaten a fried green tomato before, but we loved them! A co-worker was leaving for vacation and still had many tomatoes on the vine so he picked them and brought them to work in case someone might want them. I brought a few home and found this recipe. They were quick and easy to make. I had a couple packets of "Honey-Baked Ham savory sauce" in the fridge so we used that as a "dip". That really made these delicious! Hubby ate the left-overs the next evening and declared them still tasty!

Creamy Pheasant and Noodle

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2013
Fantastic!! My son, while in college was President of the Hunting/Outdoor Club and organized a father/son pheasant hunt. Since we live in NE Ohio, there aren't many pheasants running around, so it was on a hunting preserve. Many of the boys/dads did not want their pheasants so my hubby & son took all the extras, in addition to their own bag limits. I had tons of pheasant in my freezer. This recipe was a super delicious way to use some up! I followed the recipe exact except no carrots as hubby does not like cooked carrots. Instead I added sliced mushrooms with the peas. The result was a creamy, comfort food on a cool Fall night. You can bet I will make this recipe over and over. Lucky for me my husband is President of a dog club that hosts an AKC Springer Field Trial every year and you guessed it - pheasants are used in the field. He brings home at least a dozen pheasants every year for the freezer. This is a keeper for sure!

Delicious Easy Chicken Francese

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2013
I'm giving this 5 stars because it is really good - I'll just make a couple changes next time around. The biggest change is use a little less lemon juice. My lemons were quite large, so that could be part of it, but it was a bit over-powering. I also did not put this in the oven - because my oven died in the morning. I cooked the chicken in my cast-iron skillet, then removed it to a plate while I made the sauce. Once the sauce had thickened I added the chicken back into the skillet and let it simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Good stuff!!

Chiles Rellenos Autenticos

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2013
Very good - but I am very partial to our restaurant's recipe. I could not find cotija cheese, so used queso blanco instead. I may make these again, but probably will just go to the restaurant for them.

Moist Chocolate Muffins

Reviewed: Aug. 31, 2013
These were very good and easy to make! They were very chocolatey, yet light. I got 18 muffins out of this (I used a standard sized muffin pan), and mine were done in 15 minutes. Definitely satisfied my chocolate craving! *Note: I followed recipe exact, except I had to substitute sour cream for the yogurt as I did not have any yogurt.

Cheesecake Topped Brownies

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2013
These are good - what brownie isn't good??!! But, I was a little disappointed in them - the cheesecake middle doesn't really stand out as much as I had anticipated. I do like them and I might make them again, but I'll try what one other reviewer did and not frost them but melt choc. chips & butter and pour over the top instead. These definitely are a great fix for a chocolate craving!

Grandma's Best Ever Sour Cream Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2013
Really good flavor! This morning hubby stated he was hungry for lasagna so I thought I'd surprise him with a pan for dinner. As I pulled out my ingredients, I discovered my ricotta cheese was not good so I pulled up AllRecipes and found a recipe that did not call for ricotta or cottage cheese (I can't stand cottage cheese). This was perfect. He said I could make this recipe again, even though it had no ricotta cheese.

Quick Garlic Breadsticks

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2013
Great way to use up hot dog buns, or to make garlic bread in a pinch! I only used 2 hot dog buns because there were just the two of us, but I used the same amounts of the basil, cheese and garlic powder. When hubby came to the table he chuckled at our "hillbilly garlic bread".
