Slow Cooker Ribs

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2015
I'm giving this 5 stars, though like other reviewers I increased the amount of dry rub dramatically. I used a teaspoon of each seasoning and only had 3# ribs. It was just enough to cover all the ribs just fine. When my husband got home tonight, he said whatever I was making sure smelled good! We sat down to eat and we both agreed it also tasted fantastic.

Grandma Rita's Soft Butter Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2015
I give this 10 stars! Lela - your Grandma made awesome rolls! These were easy to make and baked up so nice and brown, yet are so soft. I pulled them out of the oven and couldn't even wait until dinner to try one. I believe I will use this recipe to make hamburger and hot dog buns, as well. Thank you!

Italian Breaded Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jan. 16, 2015
We enjoyed these a lot. I was looking for some way to make my pork chops that would go well with baked macaroni & cheese. I love Italian seasoning, so this was my choice. It was quick & easy!

Szechwan Shrimp

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2015
OK, nothing special. I thought the sauce was a little too "ketchupy" for our likes. I don't think we'll make this again - I like shrimp too much to use it in a "just ok" recipe.

Rosemary French Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2015
I didn't make this in my bread machine, but did it the "old-fashioned" way instead and baked it in the oven. I did not need any extra flour, in fact I followed the recipe exactly, and it turned out perfectly! I baked in the oven at 450 degrees for 20 minutes, then turned the heat down to 400 and cooked an additional 17 minutes. It came out a beautiful golden brown color, nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was worried it wouldn't turn out after reading some reviews, and after I discovered my yeast had expired in October, but I needn't had worried! I'm afraid I might eat the entire loaf before dinner!

Grandpa's Oyster Stew

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2015
We loved this! I had been using a recipe out of a cookbook and decided to give this one a try. I don't know Grandpa - but his oyster stew is fabulous! Two of us ate every last drop! We had fresh-harvested oysters from the Eastern shore and I also added just a pinch of Old Bay for some added flavor. We'll use this recipe from now on.

This was especially good on a pretzel bun.

Butterscotch Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2014
This was not very good at all. Most of it went uneaten. It was also not a very appetizing dish to look at. I'm just glad I did not spend a lot of money on ingredients. Sorry.

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2014
These could be addicting! I made some to give as a hostess gift and "Stole" a few for me to taste. They are delicious! I am making another batch right now - for us. Several years ago my son made candied pecans in a cooking class and we liked them a lot. I lost the recipe, but these are far better. We will add these to our holiday "goodies" for sure!

Southwestern Turkey Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2014
We thoroughly enjoyed this soup! I was looking for a different recipe to use some of the leftover turkey from Thanksgiving and this fit the bill. Didn't change a thing except I added some fresh chopped parsley for some color. Today was a cold day and soup was just what we needed. Thank you, Doug Matthews!

Dark Rye Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2014
This bread was nothing that I would call rye bread. It was more like a sweet brown bread of some sort. I will not be making this again. I made it for reubens and we were sorely disappointed.

Chef John's Sausage & Shrimp Jambalaya

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2014
This was very good! I followed the recipe exact - except I also added some chicken. We thoroughly enjoyed this for our dinner, with a loaf of rosemary bread. Had a bottle of Riesling, which went well with this. We also added Cajun seasoning to it at the table for some more heat and flavor. I'm so glad there's enough left over for my lunch tomorrow!

Apple Snack Squares

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2014
I made this exactly as written and it was a HIT! Took it with us to a winery with my daughter, son-in-law, mom and dad. Everyone ate a piece, then went back for more. People were actually picking the crumbs out of the container. Definitely a keeper! Glad I saved a few pieces back so I could have some with my morning coffee.

Pumpkin Cheesecake in a Gingersnap Crust

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2014
I made this for a luncheon at work. Instead of one cheesecake; I used gingersnaps placed in cupcake liners as the crust and made individual cakes. I baked them about 20-25 minutes. Once cooled I drizzled salted caramel topping on them and placed a piece of pecan on each one. These were a hit - everyone loved them! I also loved them; however I didn't really think the texture was a cheesecake texture - more like a pumpkin pie; that's why it's getting 4 stars not 5. However, I will make this again and I'll also try it in a springform pan. Maybe the texture changed because I made it in smaller size in the cupcake liners??

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2014
We haven't technically eaten this yet, but I did a taste-test when I got home from work. Yup! Delicious! I feel sorry that my dogs had to be home all day smelling this cooking; when I walked in the door the wonderful aroma hit me immediately. I can not wait for dinner! Some crusty rolls and this stew is going to be such a comfort on this chilly, rainy evening.

Apple Cinnamon White Cake

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2014
I'll give this 4 stars. The cake part tastes wonderful. I made it just as is and believe it could be a 5-star recipe with more apple and cinnamon mixture in it. I also believe next time I'll put some cinnamon in the batter and also add some fresh-ground nutmeg. I don't think this will be sitting on my counter for long.

MY Peach Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 9, 2014
After making this recipe a few times, hubby and I have agreed that cutting the amount of cinnamon is a real good idea. We use about 1/2 tsp. now and that seems much better. ENJOY!

Affy Tapple Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2014
Yummy! Very easy to make and it comes together nicely! I did find that 2 cups of peanuts seemed like an awful lot as I was putting them into the mixture, so I ended up only using 1-1/2 cups and I think that was a perfect amount. I'm not sure about the serving size of 12; I think it would depend on what is considered a serving... but it fit perfectly into a 2 quart dish. This is a dish you can make relatively inexpensively yet it is a nice presentation. Looks as pretty as it tastes!

Smooth Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 19, 2014
This is a great recipe! I like sweet buttercream frosting, but most people do not. I believe this fits the bill! I made a birthday cake that was shared with many people, some who do not care for sweets and they all declared this delicious! It was just the perfect spreading consistency, too.

Easy Lemon Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 4, 2014
I made these to take to a "room-painting party" at my daughter and son-in-law's new home. I provided lunch and cleaned up while everyone else picked a room and got busy painting. These cookies were a hit, but I think they weren't really lemon-y enough - next time I'll add some lemon zest to them.
