There was nothing on our calendar for this weekend.  Nothing at all.  That is a very rare occurrence for us.  I always thought that once the kids grew up our calendar would be blocks of blank spaces, nothing to fill our time with.  That hasn’t happened yet and my kids are well into their 20’s. MORE

About this Cook
I've been married for 33 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have two black labs that get to go duck hunting with dad and two cats. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style
I made this up exactly as written, but I only had one 4-lb chicken. I used all the seasonings on that one bird and I'm glad I did - it was the perfect amount for a burst of flavor. We dug out our rotisserie for the grill and used that instead of the oven. Oh my! The smells were so wonderful; our dogs did not leave the deck hoping for that bird to jump off the grill so they could eat it! It was better than that rotisserie chicken you buy in the grocery store. Absolutely wonderful! Thank you!

Mom's Pasta Dough
I did not add any salt. After I had my dough mixed and kneaded I wrapped it in plastic wrap while I got everything set up. I divided into 4 pieces and re-wrapped 3 of the pieces to keep moist. This was my first time making pasta and it came out wonderful!

Mushroom Chicken Piccata
Absolutely delicious! I had a bottle of chardonnay from a trip to Maryland which I used. Of course since I opened the bottle, we had the rest of it to drink with dinner. Served this with baked potatoes and steamed asparagus. It was so good! I didn't change a thing. Hubby would comment every now and then thru dinner, "This is really good!" So glad I have some to take for lunch tomorrow.
