I just finished reading my e-mail from our nearby seafood store.  It's a good half hour from home, but less than 15 minutes from work.  I think that Friday will be a "seafood fest" here for dinner.  Last week I went there and got a couple soft-shell live Maryland Bluecrabs to go… MORE

It seems as I've gotten older, nothing happens without food in some form.  When my son was younger and involved in youth wrestling we would spend entire weekends in a gym somewhere, in the bleachers at a tournament.  I loved those days!  I'd get up early and pack my "wrestling… MORE

About fifteen minutes from where I work there is a seafood market that sells about every kind of seafood you can imagine and it's always fresh and not too terribly expensive.  I receive their e-mail each week that lists what fish, etc. they will have that week.  This week the… MORE

When I was a kid I hated leftovers.  It just meant that what Mom made for dinner last night wasn't that great so then we had to finish it off tonight.  I had no idea that she probably made extra so she wouldn't have to cook two nights in a row.  There were 4 kids and 2 adults in… MORE

Does your family have a favorite restaurant - you know, the one that's always picked for those special occasions?  We found ours about 6 or 7 years ago.  It's about 55 minutes from home - which some people might think is way too far to drive - but we live in the country - all… MORE

Many people would consider pheasant to be a special dinner.  Not so at this house.  Pheasant has always been that meat I pull out of the freezer when I can't think of anything else to eat. Or, we don't have any other kind of meat to eat.  One of the very first blogs I wrote was… MORE

In my last blog I wrote how I was going to bake myself a chocolate cake and Suzy some dog treats to help "ease" the pain of her surgery.  Mike Harvey commented that Suzy was getting spoiled and Witchy Woman commented that not only should Suzy be spoiled, but Mom, too.  Thus, the… MORE

With everything going on, I have decided it is Time for Chocolate!!  The weather here in NE Ohio has returned to it's normal, icky self - which means it is snowing right now.  This after having had 80 degree days and sunshine!  So, I looked thru my recipe box and found this… MORE

I'm not really sure what normal is for me - but I'm ready to go back there.  Last week was my Spring break.  I'm not going to complain - I mean, I love getting time off work!  And, I might add, I had a wonderful week off in spite of everything.  Our weather was… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
