Today is opening day of duck season!  That means I have officially become a "duck widow" once again.  Last night as Jon began rounding up all of the "accessories" (aka Suzy's hunting vest, gun, ammo, camo coats, etc.) Suzy realized exactly what was going on.  She began pacing and following… MORE

Five years ago my siblings and I surprised our parents with a 50th Anniversary Party.  It was fun planning and turned out great.  Five years later I felt like we needed to celebrate their anniversary again to honor their life together and all that they accomplished....  They did raise four… MORE

Last weekend was our long-awaited trip to see the Wizard!  My daughter, Kristal, is a huge Wizard of Oz fan.  When she was four we took her to a dinner theatre to see a production of the show and she sat mesmerized the entire time and was hooked from then on.  Birthday presents are easy for… MORE

Since September 2 we have been living without a roof over our heads.  Well... figuratively speaking that is.  There has been a roof over my head; albeit a blue-tarp one.  After the huge tree fell (that was blogged about already) it seemed like it took forever for us to get everything assessed… MORE

Jon and I will be celebrating our 31st anniversary on Wednesday.  Last year our two kids surprised us with a party where all our close friends and family came to celebrate with us.  This year we were uncertain when we would be able to find time to celebrate.  This past week we decided to go… MORE

My last blog was all about my 23 year old son and his newfound cooking skills.  Well... yesterday I got to experience first-hand my daughter's cooking skills.  She's been married four years and technically I've known she knew how to cook.  I've even eaten some of her creations.  And they were… MORE

My son, Steve, just recently moved out on his own.  He's been gone from the nest since January when he packed up his bags and headed west.  He got a job as a youth corrections officer at a state facility in South Dakota, which is 1,400 miles from home.  My older sister lives out there and he… MORE

Sunday morning started out like any other Sunday morning around here.  Suzy finally cajoled one of her humans to get up and feed her breakfast and let her out for a morning romp at 6:00 am.  Suzy doesn't understand that on Sunday it is OK to stay in bed just a little longer.  This Sunday it… MORE

I've been busy.  Not just busy - real busy.  My summer flew by without any of the things on my to-do list getting done.  At least not the things on my list that would classify as chores.  I had plenty of fun.  We just got back from our annual trip to Virginia down by the Shenandoah National… MORE

It's hot and I've been busy.  Busy with the restaurant and busy having fun.  After all, it is summer and I believe in having fun in the summer.  Heck - I believe in having fun all year long! Have I been cooking much?  Nope. Not really.  It's too hot to cook.  I made huge tropical shrimp salads… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
