My daughter and I both work about 5 minutes from my mom and dad's house.  That's a good thing because we can stop in to visit them after work.  My daughter, Kristi, only works until around noon on most Friday's and she's started a habit of going to Grandma and Grandpa's to have lunch with them… MORE

Well, it happened.  I knew it was coming - it was inevitable.  And really the alternative is not very pleasant so I really don't mind.  Yup. I turned 50 on September 11th.   When I was a kid, way back when my own parents were no where near the age of 50 yet, (and man were they old to me!)… MORE

It seems many of us are going thru the Empty Nest Syndrome in some way or another. It's that time of year - our "little ones" are heading off to college and leaving us alone.  Hubby and I are back to the empty nest - for a while anyways.  Steve headed back to school yesterday for his final… MORE

Earlier this summer hubby and I were on our annual Chincoteague Island vacation.  One night while sitting outside the camper waiting to see the first blink of the lighthouse for the evening our daughter texts me... "I heard there's a new winery that just opened up by our house". Apparently she… MORE

I’ve spent the past week in the mountains of the Shenandoah National Park with my husband, Jon, and dog, Suzy.  We spent our mornings hiking and afternoons visiting wineries and breweries.  Evenings we relaxed at the campsite and cooked some fantastic dinners.  No Meatloaf, that part comes later… MORE

One of our fellow AR gals, Sarah Jo, has inspired me to make a weekly meal plan.  She posts hers weekly and it always seems so organized, and yummy.  I always think, "I can do that! I'm a well-organized person, should be a piece of cake."   Finally two weeks ago I decided to give it a try. I'm… MORE

My husband and I just got back from our annual trek to Chincoteague Island - our paradise on the Eastern Shore.  We went there 30 years ago for our honeymoon and have been there almost every year since.  It doesn't seem like a vacation to us much anymore, it's more like a homecoming.  We know… MORE

"If you love your job, you'll never work another day of your life..." I don't know who first said it, but I believe it.  I also don't know of anyone who ever said "If only I'd put in more hours at the office!".   Friday was my last day of work until August 9th - so right now I can say that I… MORE

Last night was a long awaited night for me - very long - 32 years to be exact.  For everyone else besides myself and my friend of 33 years it was just a little over a month wait.  I'm talking about the Bob Seger concert in Cleveland, Ohio.  Originally it was scheduled for April 7th but Bob… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 31 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. I am enjoying listening and watching her and her husband learn to cook new recipes. Our son recently graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He just got his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels, and an iguana (I'm the Iguana Mama until my son can come fetch his lizard from Ohio). We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, watch movies, and drink wine.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
