Jon's job of fixing our house from the tree falling has been put on hold the past few weeks.  It's too cold for him to work out there.  After looking at the weather forecast for this weekend we knew it was going to be another weekend of no outside work happening.  We realized we hadn't seen… MORE

This weekend we celebrated my son-in-law's birthday.   I didn't do anything but help eat the cake, though; Kristal was the baker this week.  Jake loves spice cake, so spice cake is what she made for her husband.  My weekend started out with our usual visit to our Mexican Restaurant.  Friday… MORE

Yesterday we got together with our Mexican friends and celebrated Marisela's birthday! She's the mom and I don't know how old she is - she's one of those women who won't reveal her age. I asked and received as many answers as she has family members;  Marisela - 15 (not quite); Federico( her… MORE

A few weeks ago my daughter, younger sister, and I went on a winery-hopping tour in a nearby "town".  We knew there were a few wineries there, but we discovered there was a new winery that was dog-themed and had great wines all named for the owners' and/or their friends' dogs.  We also… MORE

Some people may think it a little strange, if not out-right nuts - but today was a great day; and I spent it in the kitchen.  I hadn't really planned to spend all day in my kitchen, it just turned out that way - and I am sooooo glad it did!   Last night as we sat in front of a roaring fire… MORE

This weekend was different from a lot of recent weekends in this household. I cooked all our meals right here at home - with the exception of Friday night.  In a prior blog I asked Santa for more time so I could cook and bake more.  Well, Santa has given me what I wanted and I am very happy… MORE

We got home from vacation on Saturday and on Sunday I finally got to use some of my new Christmas presents!  It seems that this year all gifts given and received had a food or beverage theme to them.  There was plenty of wine given and received; a great new Pampered Chef wine opener;  food… MORE

About five years ago we started a new tradition.  After Christmas we pack up and head out to the Eastern Shore for a week of winter-time beach fun.  Jon loves to hunt waterfowl and there is an abundance of it on Chincoteague Island and he has had many fine hunts over the years with our son,… MORE

Tonight is the night - the night the big jolly guy breaks into everyone's houses and eats our cookies, drinks our milk, and takes a carrot or two for his reindeer.  In exchange for that, he leaves a few gifts.  He's a pretty amazing guy - in fact I wonder if he's a "guy" at all.  I mean - I… MORE

About 12 years ago, give or take a year, Jon and I started a tradition with another couple we have been friends with since we were teenagers in high school.  We take turns preparing a special dinner and we spend the evening with these dear friends.  This year was their turn to have us over. … MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
