Last night was our annual Christmas Dinner with a couple that are easily our best friends, Al and Lisa.  Nine years ago we had them over for dinner in December for a "fancy" meal of cornish hens.  At that meal we decided to have an annual dinner, taking turns being the host.   Over the years… MORE

Two summers ago my son won a Grand Prize chock full of waterfowl hunting gear, clothing, guided hunting trips, even a small marsh boat.  He was the perfect winner for this, being a 20 year old college kid that loves to hunt but didn't own any of his own equipment save for the gun and a coat. … MORE

Today I am making a "Mini-Thanksgiving" dinner - just for myself, husband Jon, and son Steve.  It's my way of getting left-overs since we go to my sister's for the Big Day.  I'm making a 4-1/2 lb. turkey breast, mashed potatoes & gravy, a sweet potato side… MORE

As I sit down with my cup of hot cider made from my new Keurig beverage machine, geriatric dog curled up and snoring at my side - I gaze into my kitchen at my now nice and clean kitchen; baking smells still swirling around and mixing together.  Pumpkin pie, cherry pie, apple pie, and a… MORE

Sometimes I get to feeling nostalgic.  I didn't used to do that, but I didn't used to be 50 either.  I got home from work today and found I didn't have any pressing chores to do.  In fact, the only thing required of me today after 3:00 pm (quitting time at work) is to make dinner.  I plan on… MORE

It's true.  When I got married just over 30 years ago I could probably count with both hands what I liked in the food department.  I could have filled a 300 page notebook with what I didn't like.  I was a picky eater.  Beef? Not really - only in a McDonald's hamburger. Or cheeseburger. … MORE

This past April hubby and I traded our old pop-up camper for a new "hybrid" camper.  When you fold the beds down it is 29' of pure camping luxury.  I have a couch, stereo, tv with dvd player, full bathroom complete with shower, toilet and sink, and a kitchen with a good-sized fridge/freezer,… MORE

Yesterday I wrote on the Buzz about my daughter hosting her first family/close friend party.  It was to be just a small gathering with a bonfire, marshmallows and roasted hotdogs.  I would say I ended up disappointed - there were no marshmallows or hotdogs.  No bonfire for that matter.  But,… MORE

This past weekend I found myself in Raleigh, North Carolina.  My husband, daughter, son-in-law and I were attending the wedding of my daughter's best friend, Ellen.  Kristal and Ellen have something that very people have - a friendship that has lasted since kindergarten. Those two girls and… MORE

In a little more than two weeks my husband, Jon, and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary.  Sometimes I still feel like that 20-year-old girl who knew how to bake chocolate chip cookies and make meatloaf and not much else.  I barely knew my way to our tiny apartment kitchen, let alone… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
