Saturday was a cold, wet, rainy day here in NE Ohio.  I have to say that this year we really haven't had many of these days - in fact the sun has been shining more this year than normal, so I can't complain.  Our original plans had to change due to the weather.  Jon is building a tiki-bar for… MORE

Last week was Easter and I host Easter Dinner at my house.  The star of the dinner table is always a glazed, spiral sliced ham.  Scalloped potatoes made with the help of hubby also always grace the table.  This was the first holiday celebrated with my son, Steve, not present.  For those who… MORE

When I was a kid my mom worked at a bakery.  Best job a kid's mom could ever have; day-old doughnuts and broken cookies followed Mom home quite often.  Around Easter time she would bring home Hot Cross Buns.  I remember eating them, but I don't remember if I loved them or not.  Anyways - the… MORE

Spring Break!  Oh how I love those two words!  At the school I work at it is usually the last week of March.  Most years the weather is still cold and snowy; or at least cold and muddy.  This year we have had such great weather I was looking forward to a nice Spring Break.  As it turned out… MORE

This blog talks about an event that happened a few weeks ago, but due to other events in my life I just couldn't get this written.  Every year on the third full weekend of March Westlake's Holiday Inn is host to ODCCA's annual show.  What is ODCCA?  That stands for Ohio Decoy Collectors and… MORE

Because this site is truly a site where "friends" gather - some of us have met in real life and others have met only in cyberspace - many of you already have heard of my Missy's passing.  Thank you, CatHill, for letting people know.  I've already received many, many kind words and appreciate… MORE

These past couple weeks have been quite the emotional roller-coaster for myself and my entire family.  We have experienced sadness, joy, excitement, fear - basically all emotions that one could feel.  Most of these feelings have come about due to Steve's moving away from home. Not just away… MORE

Back when I was a kid it took forever to move through just one year. It seemed like Christmas would never come back around.  Now it seems like in the time it takes to put together a nice pan of lasagna my baby grew up and has flown the nest!  Just a few years ago I was choking back tears as… MORE

As anyone who has read any of my blogs knows - I am an animal lover - especially of dogs.  I didn't learn that on my own - I have two parents that taught me how to love Man's Best Friend.  A few blogs back I wrote of my chocolate lab, Missy, and her littermate, Prince's 13th birthday… MORE

Hubby and I had a busy weekend - it was a party from Friday until today!  Friday evening we went to our favorite Mexican restaurant our friends own - Acapulco Mexican Grill.  We weren't planning on partying.  We were just going to eat and see if we could "borrow" our adopted  Mexican… MORE

About Me
I've been married for 32 years, and live in Ohio. We have a daughter who is married and lives nearby. Our son graduated from college and moved to South Dakota. He has his own place but still goes to visit my sister and brother-in-law and have dinner with them occasionally. We have a black lab that gets to go duck hunting with dad, 2 cats, 2 cockatiels. We own a Mexican restaurant and are learning alot about the food industry. I love to eat, go camping, read, spend time with family and friends, watch movies, and drink wine; not necessarily in that order.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake - anything chocolate is fine with me. Seafood, chicken dishes and slow-cooker fare.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husband and I enjoy cooking together with wine. We pop open a bottle of wine and get cooking. :-)
My cooking triumphs
Whenever I can put together a meal that gets many compliments and leaves the diners satisfied is a triumph in my book! I love to cook meals for family and friends.
My cooking tragedies
When I was first married we had my grandparent's-in-law over for a pot roast dinner. The meat came out great, but the potatoes and carrots were still half raw. My husband's grandfather went to cut his fork into a carrot and it flew off his plate. He looked at me, winked, and said he loved his carrots that way!
